"Our Brent 644's weigh in the 40,000lb each when full and I don't plan to pull them with Walter when full."

(y)(y)

The thing that scares me is 99% of those pickups are pulling those wagons with the same 5/8 hitch pin in their 2" receiver hitch that I use to pull my lawn mower trailer.

We shall see how tough this bed liner stuff really is. It's going to make a few dozen trips delivering corn this spring and pallets are hard on stuff.

Had that Wok cooker out lately ?

I'm ashamed to say mine is buried in a snowbank

The sprayed on bedliner on my truck is in good shape after 10 years. Of course, it's on the rocker panel area of the truck along both sides.

Unfortunately, that wok is just sitting under the porch with the wood pile to keep it semi dry. My goal this year is to do more cooking outside and bring back some of the Texas cooking that I'm so fond of when I was living there.

I've been watching a BBQ pit master (ArnieTex is his name on facebook) that's from Texas on Facebook and YouTube, so he shows how to make a lot of those food I remember back in the days. I'm hoping to use his recipes as the base and then modify it to my taste.

Oh I'd be shocked if this guy used anything heavier than a screwdriver lol

Went with brother in law to get an empty rack wagon at south farm. Got there, no hitch pin. BIL throws a screwdriver and said use this. Hooked up and said "hold on I'll find some baling wire to wrap screwdriver to hitch" BIL "it'll be fine, we're just going 6 miles"

1 mile up the country road there is a 90 degree turn, 100 yard straight and then a 50 degree turn, all this to go around a farm house.
Well, this particular nice sunny spring day, the farmers daughter was sun bathing in the front yard in her bikini. BIL made the first 90 and then paid too much attention to the sunbather and then missed the second 50 and drove into the ditch and out of the ditch and on down the road. No harm, no big deal ... except the screwdriver popped out and the rack wagon was still sitting in the ditch... I quickly remembered "it'll be fine" and said nothing. was about a mile down the road before he glanced in the mirror :ROFLMAO:

A flatbed on a truck is like marrying a crazy hot woman, sure is fun but you're one bump away from losing it all :lol_hitti
This statement shouldn’t be underestimated 😂.
It reminds me of my first job delivering building materials: ‘89 Chevy ton & a half with a flatbed. Can vividly recall a plywood delivery, 5 minutes before close on a Saturday, that my coworker assured me “just go slow” no need to strap it. Probably would have made it, but as a teenager my patience wasn’t plentiful enough to wait for the old guy coming from the other direction… I proceeded to make my turn and the plywood slid onto the curb. I pulled aside and shut the truck off to load the sheets and the old guy waved as he drove by. To further my embarrassment there was just enough of a hill that the truck started rolling backwards. Low gear just wasn’t enough to hold the truck in place that day. You can imagine the strap was plenty tight after that.

Yeah I'm ready for there to be less snow around here !! Notice how that looks to be a perfectly functional grinder mixer ? <- foreshadowing......
KIMG1690.JPG

Garwsh that's going to take until July to melt :lol_hitti
KIMG1694.JPG

The picture doesn't do much for it but there is 6' of snow here. The bales are just about gone under it.
KIMG1691.JPG

Hey look, the perfectly functional mixer again !!
KIMG1696.JPG

Above is the auger that does the mixing inside the round tub in the grinder mixer. It's supposed to be attached to the shaft down below by that metal looking hole ....
KIMG1697.JPG

Seems this has been working on destroying itself for a while.....
KIMG1698.JPG

Other than being full of corn fines the innards of the gearbox look to be in salvageable condition.....
KIMG1699.JPG

Looks like the neighbor kids and their grinders have been going at this for a while. This is the half of the shaft down in the metal hole in the first picture.....
KIMG1701.JPG

Gears and bearings and washers and shims and races and oh my ..... I gotta get my parts washer setup. I blasted out almost an entire can of brake clean to get to this point :headshake

So have you learned to plant under the snow yet for the automatic watering of the seeds? Ok sorry sort of a dad joke.

Best of luck with the fix on your grinder.

Stay warm!!

"Granulated irrigation" is the best way I can possibly talk about snow lol. I hate it but it is moisture and we've had over 70" this year so far.

The busted shaft is seemingly unobtanium from the digging I've done this far. Gonna have to get creative or find another mixer

It's going to be balmy mid 30's this week :drink:

Mike, those fasteners were invented by William Dzus to fasten airplane panels shortly before WWII. He set up a small manufacturing shop in Babylon, NY where I grew up and eventually opened a large facility in West Islip, the next town over. William died in 1964 and his son Theodore took over. His grandson, Ted Jr. was my age and was really into cars. Growing up he had the money to build some amazing cars that I would watch drive by with drool falling off my chin. He went on to run Dzus Fasteners in 1982 and marketed a whole line of fasteners for the auto racing world.

Thanks for posting that link -- very interesting story. I'm impressed that three generations of Dzus owners were able to run that business for so many years. That's more and more rare these days.

@jblnut -- Walter's skirts !ook good in black. And I think the gray truck bed coating on the steps was a really good choice. Now you just have to get rid of all that snow so you can get him back on the road!

Welp after a whole bunch of digging I found a new shaft for the mixer !!!!!

Parts came in today and I'm going to pick them up Monday to get it all back together. Sweet deal !!!

In unrelated news I purchased an 18" chunk of 2x2 solid square stock.
KIMG1707.JPG

I built myself a decently stout hitch for Walter. I couldn't find one so I built it.
KIMG1708.JPG

It got a pair of Gr8 bolts through it as well for added piece of mind ..... Well that looks like I took the picture with a potato lol .....
KIMG1711.JPG

Took Walter out for a rip today !!

Looks great!
Maybe a good ole buff and wax of the cab will alleviate your interest in repainting it? When the sun comes out and the roads dry off, I can't wait for a pic of a loaded trailer behind Walter. I still vote for a headache rack.

It's a 30/30 paint job right now. Looks good from a distance and at a little speed in the way by but up close it needs a lot of work. Gotta keep telling myself it's a 27yr old Freightliner and it isn't a show truck lol

A new(er) grinder mixer is on this year's list and depending on the cost of that thing a trailer may or may not be on this year's buy list as well. A new mixer similar to mine is $75k but really nice used ones just like mine are $25-35k and decent ones are in the $10-15k range so we'll see what turns up.

I priced two different Diamond C trailers last week. A 32' FMAX307 was right at $20k and a 32' FMAX212 was around $24k. I'm leaning towards the triple axle but don't know yet. Both had the 6" taller neck, 12" spaced floor supports and max ramps along with a single storage box under the trailer.

Pops paid $6k for a 24' ProTrak with tandem dualed 12k axles back in 2000ish. Sold it to a neighbor in 2010 and bought a skid loader trailer. Sure wish I had that trailer back now lol

A headache rack is going to happen this summer, I'm just not sure of the design yet. I do know it'll mount on the two vertical tubes sticking up already.

What model grinder so we need to look for?

Neighbor still have your trailer? Maybe he doesn't use it that much and cash is his friend?
I don't have a particular model in mind but there are things it needs to have ...

-Self contained hyd system and hyd load/unload augers
-Scale
-13' or longer unload auger - usually would have a 3' extension on most brands
-540 PTO
-as big as it can be lol. 80bu or larger for sure. Mine now is a 135 but going to a 100-105 wouldn't be that big of a deal.

There are a couple of local NH dealers around here as well as Lorenz and Artsway. I did get parts for this Gehl so even that wouldn't be out of the question again I guess. I really like this MX170 but it's quite tired.....

The neighbor just bought another gooseneck but is going to set the ProTrak up as a spray tender rig. Grrrrrrr. I saw it last fall and it was getting very rusty. I offered to buy it for what he paid for it plus a pair of cases of cold Busch Light lol

I was thinking bale trailer, but dang if you're looking at premium like Diamond C, then I'll ask if you've scoped out EBY?

Keep an eye out for big grinder mixer. ✔️
Well it'll haul bales so yeah, a bale trailer lol. Bales, skiddy and minihoe, seed corn, logs, auction finds, and who knows what ?! I want something that looks nice as it'll be a customer forward item so a rusty pos isn't high on the list.

Diamond C seems to have an almost cult following lol. First time I saw one it was in my yard delivering something as a hot shot rig and I looked it over pretty close. The gal said it was 3yrs old and had over 250,000 miles on it from Florida to Alaska and all over the US and Canada. It looked really considering the use it had on it. I was impressed.

It's between a Diamond C and a MidSota. The original founder of MidSota, or Sands Welding as it started, is a family friend and the current boss man is a neighbor. There trailers are very nice as well and have a couple good things going for them over the Diamond C. A big one being the neighbor being willing to work a good deal for a neighbor and I can put a 4" lift under the axles so it will clear field approaches better. They'll also let me buy it without a floor so I can buy Amish white oak and put that on instead of the treated **** they come with. Things to think about I guess. Not ready to order one yet but hopefully this year !!

There was a ton of snow on the North side of the shop and it always melts and runs across the driveway so I blew it off and over the driveway to keep it from being as muddy as long. We'll see if it makes a difference. So far the only thing I've noticed is it turned the whole works into an ice slick and I can't get up it anymore. Plus the day the mixer broke I fell off the top of the damn thing while climbing down and banged myself up pretty good. The only lasting issue seems to be my right knee is awfully sore and tender. Sure hope it heals up. I'll give it a few years and go to the doctor if it still hurts.

Projects projects projects !!! I scavenged this IR compressor, well mostly just a tank really, from a farmer back in 2016 I think with the intent of rebuilding the pump and getting a new motor and having a nice little unit. Well 7 years later and it's time to do something with it finally !!!
52775102877_fc6f0f2751_b.jpg

Mud Mud Mud Mud Mud Mud Mud
52776122033_7e2593ff8e_b.jpg

Fun stuff. That duct tape on the top of the tank is where I used to write the date oil was last changed when I drove the supply truck for Leedstone and Air Comp maint was one of the things I did for farmers. I moved onto the service team in early 2014 and sometime in 2016 I swapped this one out for a brand new 120gal IR monster as they added onto the parlor and needed more air. Turns out it was time as the bearing on the pulley side was on its way out. I may rebuilt it one day, we'll see.
52775894129_a1b4da7b38_b.jpg

For now I put a IR 2475 pump that I acquired when I upgraded someone to an IR3000 head and they didn't want this one sitting around. Ummmm yes I'll make it gone for you !!! Combined with a 2hp motor Pops had around with a 3" pulley that is too deep and we're off and running !!
52776050660_bd9a100981_b.jpg

The shield exists but it all kinds of mangled and bent up and needs some lovin' before going back on. I wanted to make sure it ran before I went too crazy on the shield. So far it has to plug into a welder outlet to work and will only be plugged in when needed. I gotta put a ASCO valve on the tank yet so it stops leaking back through the head. Or put a minor rebuild kit in the head. I have the ASCO valve so I think that's what is going to happen short term. I'll wire it into the motor side of the contactor so it opens when the motor powers up and closes when it powers down. Easy peasy.

Anyone any good with photoshop ? I can't seem to get my Microsoft Paint skills on point enough to put this blue on the white cab stuffs ..... Maybe there is a better blue ... I dunno. I painted the bus Bud Light blue way back when and still think that looks nice !!
52751771865_27e24b67a3_b.jpg

It's done and ready to go to work finally !!!
52751770260_67a6fafc74_b.jpg

Glad I did the steps as well. They tie it in nicely.

*Almost* too much diamond plate. Not quite though. Gotta put the 7-way round plug back in it seems after looking at this picture ....

Now it just needs to warm up so the roads can dry off and I can start delivering seed and scratching this nice bed all to hell !!!
Not Photoshop and like you had problems getting the blue to wrap the fenders.
Anyways Walter decked in a Christmas theme.

That looks like a pretty easy way to put together a nice compressor. Good job on finding and keeping the parts needed for it.

Sounds like you're about ready for all that white stuff to be gone, gone, gone.
More like good job hoarding stuff and not getting rid of anything lol

Yeah this white **** can go away anytime !! We got 8" more last night along with blizzardy winds and huge drifts. I did get to play snowplowing guy this morning though so that was a new adventure !!

Thanks anyway

Bud light blue, wonder where I can get that in a spray can? :ROFLMAO:
The local liquormart will supply the Bud Light and AutoValue can supply the paint lol

For reals though I got the paint at AutoValue last time and the mixed it up based on a color they took off the Bud Light case lol

Mini-me helped tighten some bolts on the gate that Grandpa built to keep the steers from coming back into the cattle working area.
KIMG1726.JPG

Well I took Walter out for a delivery and on the way home the air compressor stopped being an air compressor and started being a doorstop :headshake
KIMG1740.JPG

Replaced the governor and rebuilt the unloading valve and it still isn't working. Anyone have a 3558052x laying around ?? They're out of stock everywhere I can think of to ask .....
KIMG1741.JPG

For the time being we soldier on with a different solution. After all it is just compressed air. Not too complicated......
KIMG1746.JPG

Decided to move the setup behind the cab so it looked more like I was just hauling it around lol
Screenshot_20230418-094639.png

This is soooooo nice pulling a loaded trailer !! I can see the top of the trailer and all the straps. Yeeesssssss !!!
Screenshot_20230418-094644.png

Yup. I like it. Once I get a few bugs worked out this is going to be here to stay for a long time.
KIMG1747.JPG

A buddy is raising a steer, just one, and I've been bagging feed for him and finally told him that was dumb and he's getting it in Pro-boxes instead. Way easier.
KIMG1748.JPG

This showed up today with a King size iLE mattress and fancy movable base. We'll see if this was worth more than my new grapple bucket .... A fair bit more
KIMG1749.JPG

Walter needs a bath already !! I gotta get the additional mud flaps installed. The tires kick the mud up against the rear bumper deal and it oozes down over the taillights. Likely not a good thing long term for a few reasons lol

On the compressor.....I usually take the valve cover off and soak the valves with penatrating oil and tap on them or press with a bar.

They hang up from sitting. You can take off the braided line and shoot a little in there too. Might take a little time but I've always got them working.

Sorry to hear that you fell and got hurt. I’m in the same thinking about injuries but if you need a little help with the pain go to Costco and pick up some Advil gel pills in a two pack (100 pills each) and take maybe 3 a couple times a day as needed.

It’s worked for me for maybe 40 years but I have gone a few years when I didn’t take any. I also hang 5 minutes on a teeter up lx9 inversion table about 5 days a week.

Best of luck with Walter but looks like you’ve got a good temp fix

That white **** seems to be retreating……now we get brown ooze!
Well it was lol. We got in the neighborhood of 3-4" the last few days but it's mostly gone again. It just doesn't want to warm up around here !!

I'll give that a shot. I located a reman unit that isn't terribly expensive so that'll have to happen if I can't get it going first. It'll run this way for the next week or two and then it can sit down for a while if need be.

Thanks for the tips !!

The Budlight comments here didn't age well lol. You may wish to rethink that shade of blue as your color choice. 🤣

Glad to see ol Walter is getting some good work done. 👏 Spring is here in Iowa, I'm sure it'll be up north with you real soon. Planters are in the fields, is yours ready to go?
Lol. Gotta call it "crybaby blue" now :lol_hitti

Our planter was ready to go in Jan I think. We put new fert discs on and new bushings in the gauge wheels and scrapers and a few trash whipper bearings and more that I can't remember. So yeah. It's ready whenever it isn't frozen or mud !!

Eh I'm clumsy so I've always got something bleeding, oozing, scabbing or hurting inside lol.

I've taken Advil and Tylenol and such a few times and always regret it. Having a little pain to slow me down and remind me I'm injured isn't a bad thing. It keeps me from thinking it isn't so bad and over doing it and making it worse.

Thanks for stopping by !!

Kind of a build your own mud flaps kit just laying on the ground right here .....
KIMG1752.JPG

When people ask if I'm doing okay on the farm I can now tell them that my mud flaps have mud flaps so yeah, I'm doing well :lol_hitti

KIMG1754.JPG

7630 got some new rear shoes today. They had them changed in less than an hour. Very impressive !!
KIMG1753.JPG

I went shopping in my bus and found some goodies ......
KIMG1763.JPG

6 strand fiber pulled in from the house to the pump house .....
KIMG1757.JPG

House side awaiting finishing touches.....
KIMG1759.JPG

Tripp lite SRW10U mounted on the wall in the pump house awaiting some equipment finally ....
KIMG1760.JPG

Pump house side isn't purrdy yet but a fellow GJ member and his family visited today and got it all terminated for me today. Damn I'm excited to get rid of the PtP link that feeds the house and have everything running on fiber between the buildings !!
KIMG1766.JPG

Oh ... We found a field cultivator to put behind the larger Green machine finally !! It needs some love but was cheap enough to put parts and time into that it'll still be a decent deal.

Field cultivator a 2210 or 9xx series? I don't see any Truset on it, how about Accudepth?
Looks like a good one.

Planning on keeping the double flaps on Walter or are you removing the rear set?

Seeing new tires put on the 7630 made me 🤮

I'm very sorry, can we set up a "gofundme" page? :ROFLMAO:

Inside and outside?
Lol. We purchased them Feb 22' so they were quite a bit less expensive than what they are today. I don't remember what they cost but it was in the $7k range for all 6 tires.

Farming is fun but ain't cheap lol. Well, running a business ain't cheap. It isn't just farming that has gotten expensive the last few years.

I wanted a 2210FH but they're in the $40k neighborhood....... This is a 980 level lift. It's got the hydraulic depth stop but that's about it for options.

Both flaps will stay for now. We'll see long term.

I weighed Walter last week for funsies. That fat ******* weighs 15,000lbs :lol_hitti

One of the top fiber optic technicians in Minnesota terminated and installed this stuff. It seems one of the blurriest cameras in Minnesota took this picture.....
KIMG1768.JPG

He did a decent job lol. I gotta finish the data cabinet next week during the week when no one is home and the Plex server is quiet. Once I get a fiber run to the shop the whole property will be running on fiber :drink:

That's cheap compared to the really big tires. I was told recently that to replace the 3 floater wheels on a Terragator we would be looking at $50,000. :eyecrazy:
