The new GPS stuff worked for about 6 minutes and this code came up. The internet experts say it's a vault in the steering valve. My dealer parts guy is looking up what that's going to cost to fix. If it ain't one thing it's another lol


The front right tire on the skiddy has been a little soggy lately so I washed it all off to investigate ...


Screwed again. At least it was easy to find !! Tossed a tire plug in there and off I went.


I have soooooo many little projects to do around here and they seem to get neglected so I decided to do one little thing each day. Yesterday's was to clean up the mess by the wood stove. It looks nice here again !!


Miss Lily and the 4th graders have been working on memorizing a poem to read to us and yesterday was the big day. She did great !! The teacher (whom I had in 4th grade as well) has had them do a few things like this throughout the year to get them in front of people talking. The first one last fall had everyone looking at their shoes and almost whispering and yesterday most of the kiddos were doing actions and having a blast. I think it's great !!

If you zoom in you can see the spreader hitch starting to mushroom already so I thought I'd give these plastic things a try. So far so good. I think it was $4 or something from Shoup. I recently found out that a neighbor makes them in his shop and sells them to Shoup lol. So the next ones will be coming right from him.

That's awesome! We've got rain on and off in the forecast until Sunday and fields are ready for manure and primary tillage but nothing will be planted here for a little while yet.

Brand new to us John Deere 980 field elevator home today.


Walter pulled it home like a champ! The more time I spend in this truck the more I like it


Pops started digging in the manure while I ran and got the field cultivator.


He had a few errands to run so I took over for him when I got home.


This is a 16ft disc, this tractor would easily pull a 26 ft disc. More stuff to go find! This disc barely covers the tire tracks LOL

Family farm uses teflon discs as well and love them. Especially on soil finisher in spring ... use multiple ones to take the slop out of the drawbar hitch. With Long hitches, can make a difference of 2-6 inches on back of field cultivator, needs to be more precise to incorporate chemicals correctly.

When I see the GM commercial with their self driving pickup I cringe knowing the number of times that farm auto steer looses satellite connection and veers off track. Not a big deal out in a farm field, big deal on a two lane road and a semi in the other lane

Re speed disk ... our experience, over 9 mph the tillage equipment begins to "porpoise" giving a less than desired result

Yeah it's actually a 16' disk lol. Not sure why I keep saying it's an 18' disk. If we had flatter more consistent ground I think it'd pull a larger disk but a 26' one will make the thing bark. The 26' disk will weigh around 26,000lbs if memory serves me correctly. The 30" blades can go into the ground 12" in the right conditions. It's a hell of a unit !!

2 - 8/32 brass inserts for bolting from the bottom a ram ball.
2 - 3/8 bolt clearance size holes for mounting directly to the bar. offset one hole to allow for it to be mounted on an angle facing the cab seat better. yu of course dont need to use both 3/8 bolts so the options are essentially limitless on the angle you pick.

When I worked for a Deere dealership years ago, I had to take all of the suitcase weights off the back of a 9400 trade in, and put them on the 9420 replacement. That was a fun job!

Sure is dusty !! Rolling ground in prep for soybeans.


Sort of jumping around a bit but we started planting soybeans finally !!


The seed tender with a scale is a game changer !!


Miss Lily rolled 25 acres of beans and had a blast. She's a better operator than a lot of people I've worked with that have years of experience


I have a rule about not cutting grass until we're done planting and it bit me in the *** this year for sure !! I bagged it all up because some of the stuff was a foot tall lol. 35 loads with the bagger and 8 buckets of clippings were hauled into the stacking slab


Yardwork was done FINALLY so I made dinner on the Wiskek Wok. Every time I use this thing I think it's the best food I've ever had and it continues to amaze me the next time I use it. A pound of bacon was cooked first and diced up. Two sticks of butter and the potatoes were added and I kept dragging the steaks through the juice in the bottom of the Wok. Er'ma'gawsh it was delicious !!!


I've been slowly stacking wood up for next winter. I figure if I do a little every evening it won't be such a big rush in the fall. I've abandoned the shed idea due to it being estimated at $15k so I'm going to use IBC totes for the corners and stack wood in-between. We shall see how it works I guess. If I get this whole pad full this summer I shouldn't need to haul wood around this winter.


I got the new to me Hardi sprayer up and running !! This thing is going to be sooooooo nice to use !!


I got the sprayer monitors in the sprayer tractor and mounted a brand new John Deere 4640 display as well !! $12,800 for the GPS globe and display so I hope they do what we think they'll do !!!


The old sprayer isn't worth much so we'll keep it to use for a few smaller fields as well as a sidedress rig for liquid fertilizer. These EZ-drops will dribble liquid fertilizer next to the corn rows in-season and give it a little nitrogen boost when it needs it.


Time to haul more corn to my bin !!


Lily was fascinated by the corn flowing out of the wagon and watched all the loads empty. I remember doing the same thing when I was younger.


Last night we were throwing rocks into the creek and I thought this was a neat pic so here it is

After a couple hours she got bored and wanted to ride in the buddy seat and doodle in her notebook again and I was very fine with that. That little buddy seat is sort of uncomfortable for my 280lb frame lol

The 7810 is the first tractor Lily drove and it's still her favorite. That tractor will be here for a loooooooong time as it's probably my favorite as well.

That's a great idea !! I'll set the ones in the gravel but I think I'm going to leave the ones by the grass on the concrete. Should gain 3ish cord of space !! That's enough for 3ish weeks depending on how cold it is. Neat !!

No great way to use the GPS stuff with steering of any kind with the sprayer yet as nothing was planted with GPS so it'd be a mess of smashed corn. We'll be using it to plant next year for sure. The extra $500/yr for ATTA seems like a lot but is less than $1/acre so it's really not bad. The 7630 is capable of utilizing it but I really don't think it's the end of the world to turn around at the end. I gotta stay awake somehow !!!

Just having the pretty blue line painted as we spray has been amazing so far. Section control and a JD rate controller, or some sort of a Hardi/Deere interface, will have to happen as well. This 90' sprayer and 1,000gal tank have been one of the best investments I made in a while !!!

I've said it before but having the kids help is the most wonderfully frustrating thing I do as a parent. They slow me down but it's all good once you consider it's on the job training. I've trained adults in the past that didn't catch on as quick as my kids do

We took the hostas and other flowery plants from the old house and put them by the new house. I was told we needed to do this before I "went all wildman with the Bobcat again and buried the rest of them". Ooops ....


Setting the 7400 up for 30" spaced rows so we can spray with both it and the 7630. Should really be able to get stuff done with two rigs !!


It really doesn't look much different but it should glide down the center of the rows much nicer now !!


The herbicides were all stored in my shop on the racking so we hauled them over. I got some new fancy ratchet straps that wind the straps up. Holy **** they're amazing !!!


Even with the camera on wide angle it doesn't even grab half of the width of the sprayer lol


I got the data cabinet "done" in the pump house finally. The house, steer barn and chicken barn are all running on fiber from here. The shop needs to have a line pulled in yet but it's not high on the list yet. I'd have to buy a fiber aggregation switch then as I wouldn't have enough SFP's to plug in 4 sets of fiber. It works fine this way ..... just gotta keep telling myself that


It's not quite as organized as I'd like it but I'll clean it up one day when I get a chance. Yeah right


In case you were wondering what glyphosate kill looks in a corn variety that is 3yrs from commercial release here it is. We always plant a few varieties in our test plot that are a few years out so we can help identify any issues they may have. It's also fun being able to see what is coming and having it planted in our backyards !! If this particular variety ends up being commercialized it will likely have a glufosinate only label as we've seen more glyphosate kill than is allowed.
