It seems like I'm not keeping up with what's going on out here ..... These pictures were taken before I posted the last ones
The duals went back on the 7630 so we could begin the first step in some much needed meadow maintenance.
Time to spray a chunk of meadow with everyone's favorite herbicide .... A few of my meadows have been overgrown with nasty wire grass and I want it gone. Spraying glyphosate on it will kill the wire grass and we can work it up and reseed with nice reed canary, winter wheat and alfalfa !!!
Mr. Leo and I went out to check the hay before we sprayed anything. Gotta bale it off first !!!
Pops having a good time with the square baler. We still like to square everything we can as squares are more desirable in our area.
I think we ended with 69 bales of really nice 2nd cutting grass hay.
There were still a few patches of meadow that we didn't want to risk getting the boat anchor of a square baler stuck in so I hooked the round baler up right quick. It weighs just shy of 6,000lbs compared to the 18,000+ the square baler weighs .... with the same size tires
We put duals on the square baler when we go in the meadows but when they are on they are too wide to go through the creek so Pops dropped them off before crossing back over. Leo and I went to get them and he had a blast asking 1,235,987 questions about "Why are there tires in the meadow Dad ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"
Once I he-manned them into the trailer we was more than ready to go back with them
I have never seen this creek this low before !!
Leo, Alyssa and I went on a mini crop scouting tour to see how things were doing.
The cob Leo grabbed was nice a full but Alyssa's had a few rounds that weren't filled out. It's okay though, I never thought they'd look this good with the little bit of rain we've been getting this year.
"Why are there purple kernels Dad ??" I enjoyed telling them that it was Golden Harvest E95D3 Enogen corn with the alpha amylase enzyme in it. It helps break down starch in the rumen of our cattle and that makes us money !! The purple kernels are tracers so it's very visible that it is Enogen corn and is meant for cattle feed.
Last Saturday we went to a Covid delayed wedding reception and went on a hay ride. It was the first time in a LONG time that I truly felt relaxed and had a wonderful time. The kiddos were sitting between Mama Bear and I and asking lots of questions about what we were driving by and I was happy to answer all of them. I didn't want to get out of the hay rack and neither did they
After we got the hay baled and Roundup sprayed (ok, it was Honcho ... knockoff Roundup) we hauled the dirt away from the ditch that Dad dug a few years back. It's been too wet to even think about loading this stuff with the skiddy so we decided now was the time since it is dry as a popcorn fart out here.
Ever wonder what a Midwest meadow looks like underground ? This is it. There is about a foot of root mass and 50' of wet muck under it. Usually when you turn up black dirt in a meadow up here you had best stay from that area for a few years or you'll sink away and get stuck when you drive over it before the roots have had a chance to grow the hole shut.
Clumpy ditch cleanings !!
I think we hauled 50 loads total
It got spread out in the meadow in spots that seemed to have poor soil. Hopefully this nice black dirt will help those areas out
Once the Roundup took effect Pops ran over everything 39 times with the disk and tore the sod up nicely.
Hey look !! Someone dropped off a cute little dozer !! I wonder what for ??
It probably has something to do with these flags South of the chicken barn ....
The SIP's for Mama Bear's house are here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A bit out of order .... I was bringing the round baler back into the yard from way earlier in this novel of a post ....
