Just planning out the wiring in my new workshop. Laying out some EMT conduit and boxes etc. Im trying to keep the outlet faces flush with the front of the C section. Anybody see any problems with the layout in my pic? Nothing screwed down yet, its just laid out for example.

Also, any suggestions on running conduit past an I beam? Am I ok to just drill a hole straight through it or do I have to go around?

Thanks in advance

Personally I would not drill the red iron and would rather bend a couple of offsets around it in saddle-like formation.

I always ask the customer before drilling red iron. If no one knows if it's okay or not, offset around it.

We install boxes in metal buildings a few different ways depending on the install.

1. Bracket boxes work better than that setup you're using. Much simpler, just a little offset to get into the box. Going in one side and out the other means you can pull through a few boxes at a time.

2. Mount 4 square boxes right to the face of the Z channel with the top of the box sticking up proud enough to get a conduit into the back/side.

3. Mount 4 square boxes right to the face of the Z channel with the ko's lined up to drill right through the face of the Z channel where you can conceal your wire or conduit under the z channel. This is the hardest method because you have to strap your conduit/cable upside down and it leaves exposed screws sticking up.
