I had a finish carpenter come to my house to install mine. I paid $850 for labor and 150 for materials in addition to the door I purchased myself. I was his "assistant" so he didn't need to hire a helper. He could have done it himself but I was happy to be able to look over his shoulder to watch how a pro works.

I'm finishing a house. We went to Marvin Essential windows and slider doors and blew the initial "builder grade" budget. I believe our 96x96 doors were about $3500 each and in the case of sliders, they come out and install them for you (included). It'd be slightly different for a remodel as you'd need to pull out the existing door frames and would be on the hook for re-trim, but that's a much better deal than $10k each... We went to a local supplier that provides windows/doors for all the custom home builders.

It's pretty well known around here that some of the "replace your windows" companies have quoted over $100k for 3700 sqft homes.. Can anyone say "margin"?

Never buy a cheap patio door, and never expect a labor quote from a large company like Anderson to be competitive. Their overhead is crazy, which is evident in their quote.

plan on switching out the locks

Baldwin, Schlage, go online and check features you want and can afford.

About the Andersen doors and windows, Florida has some of the most-strict building materials regulations in the nation, because of hurricanes (HVHZ: high-velocity hurricane zone). Look at Miami-Dade County Product Approval associated with doors or windows. It's a big selling-point, and is usually the most-expensive product in a manufacturer's line. You cannot legally replace an exterior door or window in the south Florida area without purchasing a product which has this rating.

Take time to review all the links found under this, it's very interesting how the testing is done, product approval is awarded, and how the process makes sense in an area of fierce windstorms.

A tool for testing building products and techniques at my alma mater in Miami.

There are two companies which are under the same ownership, which manufacture HVHZ-rated products: PGT and CGI. The testing performed on building products to ensure they meet the building code requirements is rigorous. My wife is an engineer (E.E.) and we know the P.E. who was responsible for heading the testing and inspection of the manufacturing plants where HVHZ-rated products are made.

We re-modeled our CBS ranch-style home in the Miami metro area, and we chose CGI for the windows and doors. CGI was since bought by PGT and is now their premium line. Besides the premium energy-efficiency such products offer, we were pleasantly surprised how much-more-quiet the house was with these windows and doors.

We went with another manufacturer for the patio doors to the pool deck. The house had the original 1950's mill-finish three sliding glass doors, filling an eighteen-foot opening, the doors would stack to one side, providing a twelve-foot clear opening. We bought a premium product a nanawall aluminum door assembly. The doors open three to either side, and stack, accordion-style. The two doors in the middle also open like a pair of french doors, swinging 180 degrees, so you can in about 15 seconds, have a six-foot opening, with the 'french doors' secured in-place opened. In another 45 seconds, you can open all the doors, to have an eighteen-foot-wide opening clear span. It's very-impressive being fully-open. We did the whole-house re-model in preparation for our retirements, the cost of the nanawall doors installed probably six years ago would cost about the same as a 2022 Ford Super Cab today.

I installed a new 6' slider a couple of weeks ago. This was my 2nd install (in two different houses.) I bought a United Distinct slider w/ internal blinds (from Lowe's) for 1250.00 out the door. This is not the 800.00 door they have on display, this one's very good quality and it'll outlive me. It was 21 degrees this morning and I checked it for leaks...none. With trim and all I've got about 1500.00 in it.

The last one of these I bought (different brand) was almost twice the price, but now that I'm a fossil I just don't need to spend that kind of money on a door anymore. I'm happy with the fit, finish and function of this door.

This is an old thread -- it came back over locks?

Often -- not many choices unless it has conventional hardware. There are some on here with lock knowledge ...most of the stuff from the big box store is junk. All depends on what you want and need ...... finding middle of the road today is hard. With everything ... the low and middle is all from china ...

If you want cheap, go cheap. If you select Anderson, you’re going to get a quality product, but it’s going to cost you.

There’s a wide spectrum of products out there, but you’re not going to get Anderson quality at a low end price.

Do the labor yourself if you can. You will save a ton. I replaced my slider myself when I was about 57. No problem at all. Got it from Lowes...a pella.

Tell me I'm not crazy basic 60x80 French door...wifey called renewal Anderson and over 10K :willy_nilis their quote...Me I thinking about 3-4K for above average door installed...am I out of touch on current prices?
We paid a little over 7K, and it was a custom fit size wise. Install was on the 2nd flr balcony, and included all trim and oak threshold!

Back in IL we would have done the install ourselves. However, getting the window unit up a steep driveway, then 2 flight of stairs, I pass. And it was completed in ~ 4 Hrs. with 3 people !!

I received a 5k quote for the removal of a set of french doors to replaced with a sliding door so we could use a cat flap panel. Nothing fancy, standard door opening to a sun room from the tv room. Door at Lowes was $1500.00 the rest was labor. I now have a cat door thru the drywall that works just fine. $35.00

We have a contract to have 2 slider doors and 7 windows replaced (two of the windows are very large - 10'x5') for $13K. Ply-Gem brand, which is less expensive than Anderson, but still... 10K for one french door sounds pretty extreme.
