"Over Flow" Shed?

I ended up with a 32 wide, 22 deep detached, heated slab garage/shop.
Left bay is long term project, right bay is quick repairs, far right is bench, parts washer, etc. I would have liked larger,, but I would have had to jump through some major hoops (looking back I should have).

It works because I have a rule "NOTHING gets stored in the shop"
It has large pull down attic stairs and the Loft is fully floored and is my car parts "storage"

In my county you do not need a permit for a shed (under 200 sq ft and no perm foundation) ,So I moved a small 8' x 10' shed by the rear of the garage, I store some seldom used things in there (sand blaster, etc)

So, I was thinking of ditching the 8x10 shed and building a 12x16 shed, running power to it, moving the 60 gal compressor out there, a blast cabinet, Parts washer?, and other seldom used large tools??

Anyone else "complimented" their small shop work space with a shed as a secondary work area??

Forced to do the same due to way too many large tools and conflicting hobbies. To date i just try to store them in an organized easily accessed 12x16 quality shed w/ loft and its been manageable. No power to it, i have heavy duty handtruck, ramps, low floor trailer etc to make moving things like the planer/table saw/blasting grits etc. to the desired work zone, which is on the slab outside the garage unless weather is foul.

3 (three) approx 6'x3' plastic jobs behind my 20'x30' mistake, all on 12"x12" pavers set in sand on top of the gravel back there. The source of endless "shed" jokes and comments, and a reminder that I need to "shed" some of the **** in the garage. But they are handy for stuff you will nev... infrequently use. Like my duplicate hand truck, duplicate shop vac, HF tire changer..... I have one I am dedicating to irrigation. Fittings, the drip tubing, etc all (well, mostly) sorted in HF clear bins and clear plastic jars. And a big box of tarps, never know when you might need a tarp or two.

Yes, my dad has a similar setup in that he has a small shed for random oil, motors, etc. No power/heat/windows, just cold storage.

I have an over flow enclosed trailer that I found used in good condition. It cost me less than a shed would have, no permit was required, no property tax is levied and I can park it right next to the garage side of the house. A shed needs to be 10 ft from the house in my municipality. I register the trailer for $20 per year just to stay legit.

My only complaint is that it gets muddy by the doors, which should be resolved with some stone or pavers this spring.

I bought a Wells Cargo car hauler to store a bunch of L&R IHC truck parts. Years later, I needed to make more space in the shop.
I got another good deal on a Haulmark 10 foot single axle trailer. There is most of a 1953 R120 IHC pickup in this trailer. The truck is in pieces. The pieces fit inside other pieces.
I have to keep both trailers registered and insured so I can keep them here.
I need to move a few machines around in the shop for a better use of the space. I started the rearranging last week.

I have a small 8X12 shed dedicated just to yard tools. Mower, tiller, weed eater, blower, and hand tools, plus gasoline storage. I don't like having small gas engines in my shop. They stink all the time, and have a much greater fire risk. The shop is 28X32; the attached garage (for the wife's car) is 15X23. I'm planning a carport to park my truck. People out here in the country have a lot of sheds and carports.

I forgot to mention, on the other side of the property I have a 12x20 "yard tool shed with over head rack for wood, with a 10x20 lean-to added for the tractor. And a 8x 12 chicken coop that is 1/3 "shed"

So NO yard stuff, no storage in my shop/garage,, The garage over flow shed I was thinking of setting up as additional "work area for stuff that is must have, but seldom used. In addition to moving the compressor in there, setting up the blast cabinet, HF 20 ton press,

My friends call my place shed city as I have 4 sheds in the 8x10 range plus a building I call the shop as it has power in it and is bigger at 14x18 in addition to the 24x52 garage. All this because when I built the garage I made a rule that it was only for vehicles and the parts, tools and supplies required to maintain them. I've seen too many garages where the owners can't park a car in them because they are full of junk.

We have a pool so that pretty much requires a shed of it's own for all the toys and deck furniture plus a smaller shed that stores all the chemicals and assorted **** that goes with a pool. The other two sheds have all the outdoor equipment in them, mowers push and tractor with a cart, snow blowers and all the hand tools.

I like stuff to be organized and this way I can quickly lay my hands on whatever it is I need for any particular job.

The shop has all my wood working tools plus serves as winter storage for the motorcycles.

The yard is big so the sheds don't look crowded in, at least to me. I'm sure plenty of people think it's pretty redneck but what do I care?

My shop is not that big, 24 x 30, but very functional considering how much metal and wood working equipment is in there. I have a couple storage sheds, one is an old concrete 10 x 10 milk house that all the small engined stuff goes in, one is a stick 12 x 16 that seasonal stuff plus the infrequently used shop stuff goes in. The sheds are only for storage, not for working in.

Like 510ebl posted, my city/county has setbacks between buildings, so may be something to check on.

We have the same 200 sq ft limit for a building permit, so I built a 12x16 shed and only needed a zoning permit. I asked about adding a deck or porch area for my grill etc, and the permit folks said any structure attached or within a certain distance counted as part of the shed. The shed holds the L&G stuff and some tool and parts overflow.

I worked at a dealer shop w/ something like that. The main shop had a shed roof on the side. Somewhere along the line they decided to enclose it and make it into a room. We moved the big press, a grinder/wire brush, drill press, parts washer and a few other things out there. No heat or anything but usually we would only be working there for 10-15 minutes.

Found out from the county I am limited to 150 sq ft on a no permit shed.
So going with 10x15'
Things I know are going in there: Compressor, medium sized blast cabinet, storage for Argon, Oxy, acyt tanks, storage shelf for about 4-6 totes for work,
Things I may put in there?? HF 20 ton press

What else would you consider "seldom used" but needed that could go in the "Over flow work shed" ?

But did you ask them how many sheds you can have?

But did you ask them how many sheds you can have?

this...lmao

I have a 10x14 as my town has a 144sq ft ordinance. I also have another 10x12 that was dilapidated in the back corner of my yard. recently rebuilt it as the setbacks were grandfathered regarding how Farr from property lines it needs to be. one is buttoned up well for the small engine equipment and keeping out vermin, while the other houses plastic things, wheel barrows, thatchers etc. things I'm.not worried about mice eating apart or living in.

so all in all OP, overflow sheds are great! they fill up fast though, hahaha! buy as big as you can, and see about possibly having more than one to avoid fees, needing variances or permits etc.
