I used the foam core with the foil backed face.
i first installed the outer panel with the foil facing the outside.
They I cut a few strips to make up a "dead air space"
Then I cut a section to fit with the foil facing the inside of the garage.

I get the benefit of the extra lighting on the inside and the reflective panel
repelling the heat from the outside.

My garage door was too hot to touch before , now is is at least 10 degrees
cooler than the outside temp. No glue required, just cut the sections to "pop"
into place.
I used the home depot 1/2 or 5/8 inch material. I used the spray in foam in the center sections, it seemed to help.

Cool! No pun intended. Got any pictures?

terribly messy garage but you can see the basics of the door.
Top row has a panel missing so you can see the "dead air" gap.

I think most of the other panels have smaller strips and more dead air space.
For the best fit, just cut strips for the perimeter of the panel.
I used some spray glue to stick the center strips on. Nothing heavy duty, just enough to
stick the strips to the front panel.

Then carefully squeeze ( or fold) the outer (inside of garage) foil foam and pop it into place. The 3 layers of foil make for a snug fit.

I ended up painting my foil with a industrial oil base enamel from wallymart.
wears like iron and nice and bright.

I glued foam on the inside of my doors with liquid nails and it came off in a few days. Liquid nails stayed on the door and came off the foam. I played around with it and finally gave up.
Put the foam in and put a skin of metal or plastic over it to hold it in.
