owners of cornwell tool boxes

It seems that cornwell makes a very nice tool box but you never hear much about them...I am also having trouble finding any information on them. Write a review on your cornwell tool box. How old is it? what are the load ratings for the drawer slides? what are some of the pros and cons. Was the pricing fair. If somebody doesnt have a cornwell tool box but has information on them or knows where to find information on them feel free to share.

Cornwell boxes are made by waterloo. If you ever played with the yellow submarine that use be at sears, they are very close. I don't think they quite a krl or 6s, but not far behind.

Current Cornwell boxes are made by waterloo in mexico.

Over the years they have also been made by remline and Kennedy. I have an over 10 year old 60 inch wide top and bottom from the kennedy made days. It has served me well. Only drawback is that since cornwell switched brands, there are no replacement parts available for it. I'm happy with it.

I have been happy with my 58 that I bought about 3 years ago is has a nice drawer handles and stainless steel top is standard and never had any issues with slides or weight from any drawers I think they r very underrated for the quality they r imo my next box will probably be a snap on epiq thou I love those I can take some pics if u need any detailed of my box for reference

I have only seen a couple through pics and they look great. I had a feeling they were underated for their quality...some pics would be great cause i would like to see the drawer configuration...you wouldnt happen to know what the load rating for the drwer slide are. if you still had the manual or warrenty it could be listed in there. Thanks.

I came VERY close to buying a Cornwell box. One was a 67" dnd 30" deep or a 58" top and bottom that was 24" deep I think. The 67 was every bit as tall and deep as the 68 epiq on my Snap on guys truck. I also think Cornwell has the best drawer pull out there. The reason I didnt buy one was well just couldnt justify spending that much on a box. He was giving me a killer deal. I would have been out of pocket for 3k after trade in on a box that retails for over 8k

I wouldn't think of spending that much on a tool box made in Mexico when I could get a snap on, Mac or matco at the same or less price.

I don't know the model # or measurements. I bought a used one off the truck in late 2005 or early 2006. I paid a little over 4000. I only used it a couple months then I left the shop and went to the power plant. My box is now at home and I am still very happy. Holds lots of stuff. That said, I would never buy another box off any truck. I would look for deals on Craigslist or auctions. Maybe tomorrow i can take some pics and measure.

I have to agree. The truck allows people to finance the new box, but if you have the coin saved up, it is much better to buy a used truck brand box. Let someone else pay the first year depreciation. Same applies to most major purchases.

I just picked this up a couple of weeks ago. I buffed the paint and had to put ball bearings in the casters. I know nothing about it except it was made in 1975 (date is stamped) and it is very heavy!

Here are a few pic of mine. I bought it used in late 2005 or early 2006. I think the model # is CTB 6000. I don't know what the slide ratings are but i have most drawers pretty full and have no problems. The top drawer is full length. Overall length is about 60".

Yes i like it very much. Your normal motion of opening the drawers releases the latch.

That is the older Kennedy made Cornwell boxes. The new ones are made by Waterloo. They are actually really nice. The 67" and up are 30" deep. The 58"and down are 24 or 25". The drawer pulls on the newer boxes are the best out there right now IMHO. And the newer ones just look awesome. My nephew has the biggest "cart" they make and it is massive. Bigger than some roll cabs

No sir, that yellow box he has is the latest Waterloo made box. The Kennedy boxes didn't have that drawer latch system.

Then it's not the latest Waterloo made. This is the latest Waterloo made. What type of latch system did the Kennedy have? Looking at it closer the drawer handles are the same as the newer boxes. What type of latch system did the Kennedy have?

Kennedy used slide detents for drawer retention.

The newer Waterloo boxes have a little bit of trim added, but they're still the same basic box as that yellow one.

my dad owns a box just like sumner's but I think it is the 67"? bright yellow just like yours.

I believe he had the exact same one as the one you have now but traded it in for the larger box.

current box is the 67"? had it for about 1 year now.

dads exact words about the box:

I like it an all but the damn drawers don't fit right and stick from pulling them out all the way. cornwell is being really lazy fixing the problem. one more thing, the drawer depths are very odd and fitting boxes and kits and such is hard to do.

my words on the box:

************* over priced not worth my time. the latch system is the only thing I like about it. like said, drawers pull fine but do not pull the full length. they get warped and don't come out the entire way from weight. drawer depth is very strange and I DO NOT LIKE. box actually has paint cracks around the spot welded seems. looks ok, feels cheap.

dad also wants to comment, after trading in his previous yellow box, the 2nd larger yellow box was $2700 after the trade. not bad and very competitive pricing for sure.

I messed around with a cornwell box my snappy drive took in, it was a very nice box. I liked the drawer latching system, only thing I wasn't crazy about was drawers were a little to big.

I have had several Cornwell boxes and carts come through the store.

Cornwell carts seem to be well made and sell well.

Cornwell boxes also seem to be well made. You need to be careful when buying one though . Look at how many drawers they have. I bought a 58" box that is certainly nice but all the drawers are 3 inches deep or more. Basically, less drawers then most competitive boxes so they seem cheaper. Well they are cheaper, they just don't have the square footage of boxes with more drawers. Now that I typed this, same is certainly true for Matco and probably others as well.

I have this double bank. I bought it at the end of last year and it has been great it is loaded to the top, should have bought a triple bank but oh well! In my opinion it is great and half the price of a snap on and this box weighs more empty than the snap on but I have no problem with my cornwell and will buy another

I work with a guy who has this box. He worked out of an apartment sized Mac box at a garbage truck fleet before he came to the shop we're at. He sold off a lot of fab and hydraulic tools and downsized into that Cornwell, which he bought used. The thing's probably got 10 years, maybe more, on it and he's got it packed to the gills. It holds up really well. I'm more than impressed.

My buddy just got the same box as add2255 except he got the bottom, top, and locker on each end. He paid $1000 for it. There is some over spray on it from another friend that had it in a body shop. It was a friend to friend deal.

The box is really nice. The drawers are smooth. That grip latch system is good. It's pretty deep with good draw height and arrangement. It's a dark cranberry color. He doesn't roll it just because of the size.

The Kennedy made Cornwell boxes were small and had bad drawer configurations. Maybe they do now I don't know. They make great industrial type boxes though.

I have an older box made by Kennedy. It's about 13 years old. Cornwell boxes are not made by Kennedy anymore so good luck getting parts and there goes any warranty work. I will not buy another Cornwell box because of this issue. It wouldn't be a problem if they switched makers but there was a big fight over something so if you call Kennedy and tell them you have a Cornwell box you will be lucky if the don't hang up on you let alone get parts for it.

I just did. They do look good. I'm sure they are great quality and built tough. There is just something about them I don't really like. I would love to see one in person to change my mind. Also if they did start making boxes again for Cornwell they would need to make one bigger than 60" wide. They may make boxes for the automotive industry but it's not the focus for them. It's still definitely industrial.
