Living near Portland, I have found it easy to find P&C tools. They are easier to find Plomb. Most people have never even heard of P&C tools, so they pass them by. I had a guy at work a few years ago give me a 16 inch P&C adjustable wrench because he had never heard of that brand of tools before. If it does not come off of a tool truck, he does not want it. I have not found a P&C tool box, but I did find a Plomb tool box several weeks ago at a garage sale.

Gort.

I grew up in Portland, and I well remember where the plant was. I have several P&C tools around here somewhere that I've owned for years.

Reviving an old thread so I can share my find -

This was not an Earth-shattering deal, but an unusual find nonetheless.

From an estate sale in Milwaukie, Oregon, about a mile from the original manufacturing plant for P&C tools comes this near complete set of P&C combination wrenches ranging from 3/8" to 1 5/16" - with a few duplicates. I am missing a few of the smaller wrenches (Not sure where the set starts or ends) like 1/4", 5/16", 7/16", and 1/2". I am also curious if this set had any 32nd fractionals as I'd like to complete it!

I waited until the last day for the 1/2 price sale - which may have been a mistake since I have no way of knowing if any wrenches in the set were previously sold (they were priced individually). Cost: $60.

Thank you! I was excited when I first saw them on Friday. You can't imagine how hard it was for me to wait a day to buy them.

Found these pliers a couple of weeks ago. Different design, fine tooth adjustment - called parallel jaw pliers.

I don't know how far they were distributed, but the company was based in Milwaukie (Portland), Oregon. Plomb purchased the company in 1941 but the P&C name was still used through the 1960s. They are really stout tools!

That design carried over to Proto, I have two pair with smooth jaws that I imagine were intended for visible plumbing where marring was undesirable.

Jabberwoki: How about moving this thread over to the VINTAGE TOOL SECTION? i think there might be another one over there with some history about P & C too so this would be nice to be in same area.

Riley: i've got several hack saws, but i don't think i've seen a P & C so nice find.

ALL: i have a fair amount of P & C tools and i'll post up some pictures as i get my cabinet drawers set up to display them better.

I have seen P&C adjustable wrenches that say "Clik Stop", was that their idea or just put on all adjustables made under the Proto umbrella?

I picked up a couple more P&C tools this past week.

The first, a P&C #1306 ball peen hammer.
The second, a P&C #2118 DBE wrench.

Perhaps someone can tell me - is there a DBE wrench in between this one and the #2114 in my previous post - perhaps a #2116?

I like that hammer! Now I'll need to pay attention to the hammers as I dig through the tools at the flea markets.

I have a P&C 3/4 drive set in the box. I bought it when our vocational school shut down the diesel shop due to lack of interest. They had an auction to get rid of everything. Also bought a 3/4 Proto set. I would sell both sets as I don't wrench on the big stuff any more. Also I think I have some extra Proto 3/4 drive ratchets.
I'll get some pics up later today.

Is the ratchet P&C also? if so, is it a 5848 or 5849?

I have an exposed gear P&C 3/4 ratchet that was my Dads No. 9209

Was at an auction yesterday. I was going to stick around and buy it, but it was getting late and I needed to be on my way. I hope it went to a good home. Pretty sure it is NOS.

Only reason I stuck around as long as I did was hoping they'd move along a little faster and I could pick it up. The spent plenty of time auctioning off every little Christmas and Halloween knick-knack for 6 counties around.

Racin: I bet we won't see that box of tools again. that is pretty cool considering it's that old. hope it went to a collector so somebody 50 years from now can add it to their collection.
