I never find any P&C stuff at the flea market. Happy to say that this weekend was different.

While this thread is more wrenches and such, earlier this summer I picked up a P&C model 1931 miter box from my local Re-Store for $10.00! After digging around the internet and based on casting numbers, I discovered it's a re-badged Miller Falls model 1124 "Langdon" miter box. Found some cool catalogs in a couple of places.

As many of you know, Miller Falls was purchased by a company who purchased another company, etc. In the 60's and 70's there appears to have been a lot of cross line re-badging and selling of the various consolidated manufacturers. The line ended up with Ingersoll Rand who ultimately shut it down. 😕

Guy: yep, looks exactly like the MF series. Craftsman also re-branded them. I have a few of these boxes, they work well. If you look underneath, near the center of the arc, you may find a casting date (month and year). Mine are from the early 60's.

Really only see 1 screwdriver in this thread. These are NOS. Tried to show the price tags still on 3 of them. Crappy cell phone pics. F-ing tweakers broke in my truck and took my camera.

I can't tell from the pix, but are these in the same style as the 1960/70s Proto screwdrivers?

Not 100% sure, but I think so. I have quite a few of the Proto's that came out right after the name change and these are definetly newer. The stubby has store price tag of $1.05! I'd take a wild guess at mid-late 60's.

P&C Stuff

I picked up a few 1/2" drive P&C sockets the other day at the restore shop. What kind of finish would these originally of had? Looks like a black oxide industrial?

Chris, the part numbers on your sockets are for regular 1/2" drive. They were usually chrome finish, but yours may be from an "industrial" set where they were given a black oxide finish to reduce cost. In that case, the sockets would have been diverted from the plating process after all the machining and marking had been completed.

Thanks, I'm just trying to figure out the best way to clean them up abit. From what I have read here is the vinegar treatment will clean chrome, but can strip off the black oxide. I've only got a few $ into these so I may experiment with a couple processes.

Picked this P&C 3/4 drive Ratchet up at a swap meet for $15 with an 1-1/16 socket it pretty dirty but in good shape i have a couple P&C and Thorsen open gear ratchets to keep it company

I have yet to come across a 3/4" drive P&C ratchet in the wild. Nice find. Let me know if you ever decide to part with it!

I have a P&C 3/4 like that. Un-plated - one of the few tools I got from my dad, so it's been in the family more than 6 decades...

I can't help but think there are probably a few P&C sockets in every toolbox here in the Pacific NW, if not the entire West coast. And do you know what's sad? I have yet to complete a set of any P&C sockets from any era or drive size!

Riley, It took me years (2+decades) to complete a set of 1/2" drive Long C Craftsman sockets - just the std length... (I started long before I knew even when they were made, much less who made them)

Soon after I finally got the last gap filled, I find a complete set, in the box, with ratchets and extensions... Go figure!

That's usually the way it goes! My 1/2" deep P&C sockets shown in my last post doubled in quantity this week because of an eBay auction find. I added 9 sockets - some of which have clearly never been used - all for less than $15 shipped.

Here is my favorite 3/4" breaker. Made me a believer in the outside head design. Amazing that the blued finish is still there
