Very cool!

Does that say 1907-57? AFAIK, P&C started ~ 1915, and Pendleton didn't exist unitil 1957.

1907 would be when Plvmb started. then Plvmb acquired P&C. then Pendaton acquired Proto... (A lot more activity in there...)

Speaking of eBay finds, some of you may have seen this on there a couple weeks ago. It was missing the 3/4" combo wrench, which I happened to already own. The winning bid wasn't cheap at $72.99, but I'm happy to have it.

While I can't say with absolute certainty where in Portland those are, I don't doubt my guess. For I have visited the home of our mutual acquaintance and have seen a great many P&C tools and ephemera I had never seen before or since.

But I would never begrudge you the opportunity to acquire those sign boards. I can't think of a better home!

Just to clarify this, Pendleton Tool Industries didn't acquire Plomb (in 1957 the company was still known as Plomb Tool Co.; PROTO was a trademark and brand; the lawsuit with Plumb did not force Plomb to change the name of their business entity) - the shareholders of Plomb Tool Co. voted to change their name, and, at that time the Pendleton family had already had control of the company for decades. John L. Pendleton bought Alphonse Plomb out, and his son Morris was the real mover and shaker. So it seemed inevitable to use the family name, finally. This is only of academic interest, but the company had already been using the name Pendleton for a holding company in L.A. since the 40's.

EDIT: But Outlaw's overall point is well taken - the date range on that token key driver is the entire Pendleton (nee Plomb) empire timeline! Which is very cool.

That would be so cool, I wouldn't keep it in the shop - I'd put it in my office!

Now the obvious question: Do you know where there's one for sale?

Brian

Maybe twertsy or jabberwoki is wanting to part with theirs ? Outside of theirs, I only saw 1 for sale on eBay a few years ago ? Was super cool but shipping was around $100 and the rotodisplay was over that ? There has to still be some around here in Oregon ! Any body else have one ? If I found one in the area I would be on it !

Smokeshow paid me a visit today and we sorted through a couple boxes of P&C tools. It's funny how quickly you forget what all you have. Among other things, I had wrenches with original price tags, metric combo wrenches (rare), a single whitworth combo wrench, and a long pattern combo wrench (the only one I've ever seen). But my favorites are the adjustable wrenches. I have more than these sizes but need to dig them out. I love showing the 4" and 20" together!

Rileysan sure has lots of great p&c stuff and I got to look through some of it! Not sure how I missed the metrics and the long pattern but I will be making a return trip [emoji23] scored this 1-5/16 combo today from him as well as the brake bleeder tool! Also picked up this little flat tip from the habitat as well . The wrench and the bleeder both I believe are unused due to condition as well as having an adhesive mark on them the size of the yellow and red price tag!

I think you missed them because they were stuffed into a very full carry box. I rediscovered them as I put them away tonight :)

Said carry box was a very nice crown top carry box and I did not want to scratch the insides so I did not dig very deep[emoji51]

Hi Jabberwoki, I like those big P&C sockets too so I went out to see what my biggest was. Wish I could connect all sizes between these two. I'm a little week in P&C 1" drive tools though so have to go with Proto or Williams to turn the big boys. Ed.

Well, here are a few (not all) of the sockets off my 1" drive shelf. Most of them spent time in a service truck over the years and show some scuffing. A mixed bag but mostly Proto. I do have most sizes including a 2-5/8. Really not looking to grow the herd at this point and In a few years will probably be ready to sell off the lot. Retirement is looming and I don't expect to encounter any really big nuts in the home shop after leaving the full time job. Ed.

I would venture to say that the biggest nut would be the guy in the shop [emoji23] but he does have a fantastic collection of plomb/ p&c !

I would have to agree with you there Smoke. I should have said any big nuts other than me. There is probably a cure for old iron disease but I hope that is far in the future.

I have a question for you P&C junkies. What is the smallest size ball pein hammer they ever made?

I have never seen a P&C tool in the wild here in NE Ohio, until today. It was one of the smallest ball pein hammers I have ever seen, with original-looking octagon handle intact. Comically small, I'd guess 1 or 2 oz. at most.

And of course I didn't get a pic. Gentleman that had it was kinda rubbing me the wrong way, plus had mild stomach issues so wasn't thinking straight.

It had some oxidization to make a model # unreadable, but the P&C in a shield plainly visible. Guy wanted more than I had on me so regrettably had to pass, but if I should run to track the guy down and buy it now, I think I can.

Otherwise worn and oxidized but good user quality.
