"Re: P&C Stuff
Well I didn't expect the "ferrule" to actually still be there but I was hoping...

Intro'd the same year as the Ford V8... and speaking of 1932, apparently found not far from where Chili Catallo pulled his 32 "Little Deuce Coupe" out of the weeds in 55.

Thanks to GJ member 'outofbounds' who found it and 'Rileysan' who let me make a deal for it."

Mr. X - I'm very glad that this is satisfactory for you. RE: the brass ferrule, I honestly thought that was electrical tape wrapped around the shaft!!! LOL.

Yeah, the whole thing was pretty dark.....the first valve lifter of this style I ever bought was a Plomb years ago from a junk dealer in central Massachusetts. It was a mid 30's job with a wood handle and the the working end had a carbon soot all over it like someone had been roasting marshmellows.

Not as exotic as a valve lifter, but here is some 3/8 drive stuff I have been collecting for a while

That is nice OTG, much better condition than mine. But all the P&C speeders I have found have the wrong bends to fit in that box. Is yours a rebranded Plomb?

Hi Smoke. I've never seen a late 30's style one myself. Brian posted a catalog pic (post 1072). I've got the assembly shown in the vise but not the lifting bar. I'm not near that stuff now but I found these pics on my phone. It's in the background of the first pic and in my hand in the next 2. Got it from a scrap dealer buddy of mine from the Deer Island area just North of St. Helens.

Sounds like it pays to have friends who know you like old tools! Do you only have that one valve spring bracket assembly? I can’t imagine they are common!

I've only ever seen the one. Dude had picked up an old valve refacer/ resurfacer /grinding machine cabinet from a closed gas station full of associated equipment and I was digging thru it and there it was. I'd imagine they are even less common than the lifting bar.

Since the flat head went out of production so many years ago, I imagine a lot of those were junked over the years ! Very nice find

I found another little screwdriver yesterday.

The #1 Phillips makes me happier than it probably should. Simple pleasures for simple minds, I guess.

I bought the larger one in the back yesterday too. Based on the severely rounded over tip, it's been used as a digging tool, or something.
030 (1024x768).jpg
It looks to have been lovingly abused. Rather than re-grind the tip, it'll prob'ly find similar uses around here.

The two plastic PROTOs came home yesterday and the red striped one's from last week. I seem to have a weakness for adding to my screwdriver drawer.

Some P&C from last weekend. The 1-1/4 on the left and the two 8pt sockets are pre (R). A couple of larger deeps and the 3/4" and 7/8" DBE.

I said I already have a set of 3/8" drive universal sockets but I couldn't pass on this deal that came up on eBay, this week. I paid $15 shipped for 3 NOS sockets - one of which still has the original P&C price tag on it.

I was playing with my P&C tools tonight and started looking at the 1953 catalog in order to determine what my 1/4" drive socket set was supposed to look like. Pictured first are captures from the catalog.

The sets were actually much smaller than I thought. Many of the tools I thought should go into the set are sold separately, which explains (in my mind) why the flex handle from this era is so rare.

Here's my 1953 "set".

Most of the items in the box were bought together from a vendor at the Portland Automotive swap meet in April 2018, who thought they had no value so he left them in the tool bag under his table. It was only because I thought to ask if he had any P&C tools that I found this pot of gold.

The socket box was bought at the same swap swap meet in 2019 from a different vendor. It had a mixed socket set in it, with only a few P&C sockets.

The period correct spinner came off eBay.

These 1/4" socket sets also came off eBay but from a seller nearby (not surprisingly).

Many of the 1/4" drive sockets in the second box of misc tools have original price tags on them.

Final post this evening is from my drawer of P&C hammers and misc. tools and two styles of P&C hack saws - both of which I got from Mr. X, who is wintering in warmer climates so I'm not getting any cool leads or trades lately!

Great catalog info. Never thought about it but that would explain the scarce hinge handles. The sets did not come with them!

Finally got a few pics of my p & c. No real ties to any of them, so might trade for the right craftsman items, or send an offer if interested.

I think I may have stood next to that set looking at the tools on the table, not buried underneath. You **** big time!

P&C Stuff

You wouldn't have found it by looking. I asked about P&C tools and he dig them out of a canvas bag he had stashed. The set was complete!

You know I am a digger, so if I missed it, it was probably hid pretty well. Glad it went to a good home were I can maybe see it one day?
