Nice. Those ratchets are pretty tough.
Nice. I think Provincial has that same set. They always look good nestled together. I have plans to mount the Walden and Gruber sets I have. Some fixed socket wrenches
I was the winner of this ca. 1936-42 P&C 1/2" drive socket set on eBay, which I am certain many of you followed.
The socket set consists of ten 1/2" drive sockets:
6214 (7/16")
6216 (1/2")
6218 (9/16")
6220 (5/8")
6221 (21/32")
6222 (11/16")
6224 (3/4")
6226 (13/16")
6228 (7/8")
6230 (15/16")
And a 6233 flex handle.
What's interesting is that this set, as found, is not listed in the 1936 Woodbury or 1939 P&C Tools catalogs. In particular, the 6233 flex handle is not shown with any of the 1/2" drive sets and the socket configuration is not listed in either catalog.
The only tools that appear to be used are the 9/16" and 3/4" sockets. The rest of the sockets, as well as the flex handle, are as nice as the day they were sold!

I was mighty tempted by this set, and I am glad it went to a good home.
Congrats Brian!
Well worth the price. Nice score Brian.Well worth the price. Nice score Brian.
That’s a nice looking set. Just great condition. Can you post some of the logo stampings?

Cool spinner set, Brian.
I see what you mean. The box has clearly been sized for the pieces. There's no socket missing, you couldn't fit another one if you tried, and the longer hinge handle wouldn't fit. It's something in between the A-415 and the A-475. (What's neat is there are actually more sockets in this set than the 475, which snubbed the tray off to fit an extension.) It's probably the same size box as the A-416 Special, which also had ten (10) sockets, w/ a 25/32" instead of a 15/16", and a shorter hinge handle. See page 9 in the 1939 cat in between the A-415 and A-475. No pic.
A-41X Special?
Thanks! I debated with myself whether or not I wanted to take the plunge the first time it was listed and would have missed out had someone bid. Fortunately it didn't sell the first time around and I no longer had any doubts I wanted to add it to my collection. Now that I have the set, I'm happy I bought it!
I have a few misc sockets from this era with this style of logo but none as crisp and clearly marked as these, and I love the blue tools!
You summed up very well what I was thinking. One can only guess at how many set combinations were offered to retailers that may not necessarily be listed in their catalogs. It's a pipe dream of mine to find a trove of mailers and/or brochures hiding in the file cabinet of some family owned hardware store who sold P&C tools prior to WWII. Then again, it might only frustrate me, knowing what I'm missing from my collection!
Brian

Those are nice looking. There’s something about the older stuff that’s just way cool.
P&C sockets in the wild are almost always guaranteed to be later, chrome, and just one random 1/2” drive socket that I toss back in the bin.![]()

Last week I found an older P&C short box wrench. I had it in the Evaporust yesterday. The branding is faint, and still, there are no sizes or a part number. Looks like 1/2” x 9/16”.
I did notice an unusual stamping when I found it though. A true “P&C LOVERS” wrench if you will. I just hope that it was Karl in the stamping plant and Betty in accounting, not Kip and Barney in the boiler room.![]()
Picked up some old combos and a couple doe wrenches
Are you visiting MR. X?Picked up some old combos and a couple doe wrenches
Joke fell flat, Otg. Your black backdrop and layout reminded me of his presentation style. He likes the black mats and it's always a sharp look.
So the key here is the background teaser
Good thing I had a bid on it or it would have been gone! Thought that stamped logo looked cool.
Your joke didn’t fall flat, I loved it [emoji23] I could tell it wasn’t a mr.x post because there was nothing drool worthy carefully placed in the background of the photos [emoji23]
