So this is probably going to be of interest for only real P&C history buffs / geeks but here goes...Years ago, John Derville Jr. relayed to me the story of when Ned Boyd sold his stake of the P&C retail arm to his father John Derville Sr. who was the Asst. Mgr at the time, and left P&C in the late 20's with Sherm Haskins and tool and die maker Pete Mortensen and started Thorsen Tools down by the Bay. ( This ended up on AA and apparently there's a similar condensed version in the Shurtleff family history) So yesterday I was mega bored and made a very half a$$ed attempt to run down whatever happened to some of the guys and I came upon a patent and apparently Pete ran into Howard Fowler in Oakland and co-patented some fluid/air pressure etc.coupling device ideas. The name Fowler sounded familiar and I did a quick search and came up with this air nozzle and also a radiator water nozzle both of which I have in my garage tools on the west coast....Anyway.....I started looking at the Company name and it hit me (possibly) that the PEM in Fowler-PEM Co. is Peter E. Mortensen. ( E. IS his middle initial.)...watcha think?

Edit. so i looked a little more and found, among others, a 1966 patent 3,267,553 to a Peter E. Mortensen assigned to The PEM company...at this point located in Milwaukie Oregon.

Here's some of the earlier Patents Mortensen had some hand in 2,044,252 2,074,021 2,091,515

Good Sleuthing! That sounds very plausible to me... I think you should write a book or paper on your research not just on subject but on p&c/general tool/thorsen....there is so much mis information out there but I think you have the best shot at connecting the dots correctly for everyone.:rocker:

Nice detective work. Seems like a plausible explanation.

Hi. Thanks. Yeah, well he would have been in the Thorsen Oakland/ Emeryville area around the time those 3 patents were FILED in 1934 so that matches and supposedly he returned to P&C and in all of his later patents he seems to be in P&C's town Milwaukie, Oregon. In the 40 census he's in Milwaukie OR and his 2 daughters births were both located in Milwaukie sandwiching the time period he would have been in Oakland. One was born in 27 and one in 37 so unless he was going back and forth It might be safe to assume he was back with P&C by 37....which by the way, would match the approx. Thorsen to P&C open gear ratchet timeline.
And if PEM isn't an acronym for his name then it's a bit of a coincidence.

Hi Steve. Jerry is the great-grandson of Charles Carlborg's Sis. I wonder what he's up to?

I recently purchased this DOE display. Thought I had more wrenches to put on there, but there's still a bunch of gaps. I'm accepting donations.

Pre (R) wrenches seems to fit best on this guy. Pretty neat table top display.

Figures, I have two 2812s. I also have a 15/16 & 1" but according to my notes, doesn't have the 2832 stamp. Will have to look later.

Hey username, What does the back of that board look like? I have a couple of versions but have never thought they might be for table top use.

Here's a shot of the back side. Looks like original hardware. It collapses down so that it can be hung on a wall or unfold the leg to set it up on a countertop.

Thanks username, That absolutely looks original and no wall hanging holes. Your board is different from the two I have. I'll post a pic of those to show the variations when I get a chance.
