That’s kind of what I thought with the paint. Still a nice box though. And 2x on what Outlaw said!

It is Milwaukie IE Not ee Oregon. The Plant stood on the N.E. Corner of 32nd ave. & SE Lewellyn st. in Milwaukie, Oregon. I grew up in Lebanon, Oregon and my Grand parents stated work at P & C during ww2. My Grand mother was the First Female to work in the plant. yes in the early 60s the plant was dirty and dark still had HARD packed dirt floors in part of it. The stock room part was all nice and New it is where they had all the finished product and fill orders for the customers. I do not have very many pictures of the place
Keith

I grew up in Gladstone and my father worked at the Milwaukee plant when Proto was owned by Ignisolrand then after it was bought out by Stanley. He was the plant manager when they closed the plant in cica 1987 after which we moved to Texas where he headed up the product engineering department. He retired about the time Stanley started moving all NHT production off shore. NHT = National Hand Tool, a division of Stanley.

I have quite a few Proto and Challenger tools. I remember my father telling me about the P&C connection but it was always a Proto plant when he worked there.

The logos varied over the years, but as yet no one has come up with a connection between a particular logo style and a time period. The ampersand (&) is the thing htat varies the most, and probably because of artistic license by the diemaker.

Even though I don’t live in P&C land like some people, I did find these two chisels at an estate sale yesterday. I don’t know why the end was ground on one.

If the end is ground square, probably to remove a drain (pipe) plug with a hollow square recess. I've run into this before, but not with a chisel.
