It was just stuck in the center position from lack of lubrication. It works normally now.

When it was stuck in the center position it just freewheeled. It’s useful to position the lever in the center position to keep the dogs from contacting the drive wheel for reassembly but otherwise I can’t see any reason to position it there.

An interesting item turned up in a load of Plomb and P&C from an estate. It is a DBE shorty with no part/model number, 1/2 x 9/16 with an interesting marking:


There was also a 2222 DBE marked 5-8 and 11-16, which I think is early.

Friday I had a good day at the swap meet. Plenty of P&C.

The 2618 was a just luck. I spotted it as an interesting wrench, but it had a piece of old masking tape over the center of the shank. It wasn't until I got it home and scraped off the tape that I saw the P&C logo! The dash numbers instead of slashes for the fractions probably indicates early production. Perhaps before the Pendleton/Plomb buyout.

I finally got a chance to go through a box of over 50 sockets from the swap meet. In it were some P&C:

All 1/2 dr., with one 3/4" 12-pt. and four 8-points. 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, and 3/4.

Picked up this little 1/4 set at an auction the other day. If anyone has a matching 1/4" 6 pt socket I'd love to buy or trade for it. Haven't done the research yet to see what else I need for the set.

Been awhile since I've found any early or unusual P&C. This stuff came from an estate sale over the last week, except for the really cool box cards. They came from a dealer friend who's Mom worked for P&C until they closed. I'm sure glad the few employees I know brought stuff home rather than throw it away.

Hey Ben, I think you're right, near the end of production. I've got one like yours but they also made a red box version in plastic. i agree that you don't see very many of this set.
