That P-Touch tape is like magic. The sockets for the oil tank heaters on my race car has them labeled with P-Touch. The labels appear impervious to oil (which I spill on them all the time) and the cleaners I use to clean that area with.

Last summer I used P-Touch to mark date of service and reference points (gauge amount of twist over time) on the rear axles (full-floating Ford 9"). They are in a pretty harsh environment of Mobil 1 gear lube. Checked them last week. They are still on tight!

Wow. I would have never thought that tape would hold up in hot gear lube. That's an awesome idea. I used an awl to put a big scratch down the length of my axle shafts, but you really gotta clean them up to see it. So far, the shafts are as straight as the day I put them in. I was just curious if they actually would twist or just break. Ford 8.8" w/ 35" rubber and a heavy right foot. . .not gonna break.

Middle of nowhere.
Bored ALOT! Recovering from a stroke I had last June! Almost back to normal and almost ready to go back to work!

Hey Rolling_Thunder!

I was set to give to a hard time about the labels......................Then I saw this post.

I'm very glad you are recovering and will be able to go back to work. As many that have a stroke never make it back to any kind of a normal life.

Good Luck

new labels

Here is a better view of the new labels.

And the cabinet in the context of the shop. Since I keep my tools and supplies in cabinets, I really need those labels.

Re: new labels

Did you buy the Ikea bins when they were 99 cents each? That was a few years ago & as oil prices went up they (Ikea) raised the price a bit.
Nope. I think I paid about a buck and a half each.

Still, they've held up well.

That is true.

What is interesting to me is how we classify things, judging from the labels. I notice Jack has "Household Electric." I have "electrical Home," so we're similar there. I don't have "Chain," though. Is that really chain, Jack?

Andy

Yep. I made a swing set for the kids, and the leftover chain ended up in a bin. I've since used the chain with a come-along to get my car up the driveway after a bad day at the track.
