I used to use a kitchen mixer blade for mixing drywall mud, where air entrainment is desirable. Makes it spread much smoother off the knife. Not a can shaker, but I welded a 1/4" steel rod about 12" long to the end of a beater off of a hand mixer that died. I chuck it into a hand drill and use it to mix cans of latex paints. Works great and the cost was next to nothing. It takes 2-3 minutes to mix a can, but I've got the time.
I also made a spray can shaker similar to what is shown in post #7 above. It works great also.
