I was reading the thread about rust in a gas tank and it got me thinking how I would do it... which leads to this...

Several years ago I bought a Harbor Freight paint shaker for about $99.

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=paint+shaker

It is one of the most used, most enjoyed, tools in the shop. I use it for everything.

I shake paint with it...:D I have various cans that I put things in to shake them. Soup can with a chuck of foam shakes all my Testors model paint bottles. The larger airesol model paint cans go in a gallon can with some foam packing and get all shook up. I use an old, cleaned out paint can to put a bit of solvent in and my nuts and bolts off car projects.....the list goes on and on. Biggest thing is to remember to use it! If I had a rusty mower tank it would get some solvent and old bolts or something,,,,,and then shake the heck out of it!!

I might look into said HF paint shaker. I hand shook a can today and managed to loosen the lid and send paint all over. Glad to hear it is worth it and gong strong.

Mine is a favorite tool too. I also use it to shake the oil back into natural peanut butter.

I bought a Red Devil paint shaker at a garage sale a while back and refurbished it. The things are handy for all kinds of things besides mixing paint, I'm a big fan of natural peanut butter but keeping it mixed up is a pain. Ten minutes on the shaker keeps the oil from coming to the top for weeks.

I just discovered the only reason why I'd ever buy a paint shaker.

Now that is funny! But it does have me thinking,,,

A clean gallon can, 1 pound steak, 12oz marinade.. 10 min in the shaker and 15 min on the grill. Yum!

You've got to try it! Stirring the oil back into peanut butter leaves a crusty mess at the bottom of the jar when you're done. It can't reincorporate all the oil. Shaking it gets it creamy all the way through.
This is especially an issue with other butters. I really like Trader Joe's sunflower seed butter, but the oil in that separates even faster. I clamp three jars in the shaker (I have friends who really like the stuff too), give them a few minutes, and they're totally smooth. Then put it in the fridge. That thickens up the oil enough that it does not separate again before I finish the jar.

Oh, and you can shake paint with it too. Anything that says shake well...
Rattle can spraypaint. No problem. Old deck stain that the pigment is stuck to the bottom of the can. No problem.

It's hard to imagine life before I had a paint shaker. LOL

I bought the paint shaker yesterday and installed it this morning. The first and only thing I've used it for so far was the Peanut Butter challenge. My 1st attempt didn't go very well because I didn't tighten the clamps down enough so it became loose and sprayed peanut oil all over.

It did take 1 turn of the jar to try and get a clump out, but otherwise I was fairly impressed. The below video was "uncut" other than a few pauses, mostly to get the lid off. I'm curious if it would still take the same time on a full jar. The wife got home just as I was taking the lid for the last time and was very worried as to what I was doing with her peanut butter and the compressor and just turned around and went inside shaking her head.

Do not shake aluminum paint. A guy at work used one at a hardware store and it
exploded. Google it up. Steve

Rotfl. It actually works better on a full jar than an empty one. Usually takes me well under 5 minutes.

I have an old paint mixer from the 1950's thats electric....

It is absolutely imparative that the can of paint is secure in the little vice thing... if it rattles loose, you have one hell of a mess to clean up!
