A local GJ member graciously sold me a bank of drawers that needed refinishing, it was of interest as it was the sister of one I already had. I now have 48 drawers to work with. It was sprayed with my $12 gun from Princess Auto using dollar store paint. This is the final result, pic #1+2.

This is the paint (pic #3), ranging from $1 to $3. My wife and I mixed that colour, starting with Hunter Green and adding black, yellow and red, I believe.

The gun is shown in Pic #4. That gun sprays at a volume of about what 2-3 rattle cans would and is easily cleaned with a couple of shots of lacquer thinners and a splash of light oil (ATF) to keep anything from sticking while being stored.

A KRA-109 repainted with a Rustoleum red rattle can shown above. The bottom was painted first then stood on that board with protruding nails (Pic#3), that way you can complete the job.

After seeing Boyd's fantastic use of Valspar's Berlin green colour on his cabinets, I decided to do some experimenting with paint colours I had on hand.

The cardboard shows the results. I settled on #4 (which was 1 Jade, 1 Hunter Green, 1 yellow and 1/2 black). It turned out a pleasing green similar to General Tools and the green colour that Grizzly uses extensively.

An easy way to play around with paint colours is to use a welding rod or coat hanger to dip out the paint, that way you can limit it to one drop at a time and not waste paint when you see the colour going wrong.

The other pictures are examples of that mixture. You can see from that how lighting affects the colour. When I receive my paint chip from Valspar, I can compare it with my results.

Good idea! It may not be that elusive. I just picked up a (mini) litre of Tremclad's Hammered Gold (COLOUR: 254831 - Gold) from one of my favorite clearance tables. It may take just a bit of tweaking to get there. I'll work on it....

I have two S-K finishes in my collection, the rougher from the fifties and earlier, then the smoother from the seventies. The latter being the easier to work towards.

As I suspected, it was not a difficult challenge to duplicate S-K's smooth hammered finish. My paint sample was smeared around on a piece of scrap sheet metal with a small rod, but you can clearly see the hammered effect showing through. Spraying it would probably further enhance the effect.

First time out, the mix was.....two parts Hunter green and one part hammered gold, both colours are shown above. The single "drop" method did not yield the desired visual results, so I used a slightly larger volume. I made dippers from bleach bottle caps taped to a popsicle stick. The result..

Received my paint chip sample from Valspar today, it is much the same as the one posted above. The problem is, the chip represents a latex flat version of that colour. Guess I'll just wait until the next U.S. visit and have some mixed up in high gloss enamel, to compare with my experimenting and see how close I came.

Excellent job on the color matches! I would say your Berlin match is spot on, as are the others.

My wife and I took a mini holiday to the Thousand Islands area and spent some time in Watertown N.Y.

Lowes there, mixed up a sample jar for $2, but it looks nothing like the Berlin you have, it is like the washed out sample chip colour above.

Lowes also told me that N.Y. state allows only latex based paints to be mixed. So that is what I ended up with.

I am happy with the "Berlin" colour I mixed and will mix my own for any smaller projects, or get a colour match locally. We are still able to access oil based paints here....for now.

I have shown my pallet buster a few times, but here it is finished, with a handle and painted Tremclad's Dark Blue. Much the same colour you find on Record vises.

These were all painted using my Fuji semi-pro 2 stage turbine HVLP:

This is clear, not paint but figured I'd show it anyways. This is pre-cat laquer, stuff dries to sand in an hour!

This was sprayed with a King automotive style gun, paint is SW urethane alkyd enamel

Good eye, it is a beaver lathe! The paint colour is a custom match, I can pull the code if you're that interested. The urethane alkyd enamel goes for about $35-40 per gallon. A nice step up from it is their acrylon 218 HS which is a two part polyurethane, stuff dries fast and hard and has great UV resistance.
As a side note I used SW corothane MIO-aluminum as a primer, nice stuff to work with and is the best I've found in a one part primer for marginally prepared surfaces. Looks pretty neat by itself too:

I should note that all these paints are pretty nasty to spray and I always use a 3M full face mask with organic cartridges.
