Palm Control ratchets

I recently received a Facom 3/8" palm control ratchet. I love the functionality of this ratchet. I'm assuming it's the same thing as an SK PC ratchet save for the grip on the handle.

Any idea how strong these ratchets are? Can they break loose pesky bolts?


Does anyone else make this type of ratchet.

I have one and I love it...for its size it can handle alot of torque....its worth the money

yeah, they are strong, probably stronger than the standard Ratchets. Check out the site. It says 17 teeth are engaged at once, which means each tooth only bears 6% of the load. I wouldnt worry about it.

The Facom palm-control ratchets are pretty strong, but I have actually broken one during an engine re-build. The distributor (Griots) replaced it for free, but it took a while due to shipping delays.

They are really, really strong. However you want to break the nuts free with some wrenches or with a torque iron(dont know the english name of it)

That looks like a Facom Breaker bar. Its a chromed version and made for the Aircraft industrie

Well, pics might be deceiving. However to me it looks like a 3/8" breaker bar which is 255mm long (approx. 10"). The 1/2" bar is 410mm (approx. 16")

Well, I started this thread over a month ago. Since then I have also picked up a set of SK palm control ratchets.

I think the Facom are nicer. Better fit & finish.

Perhaps I'll open up both types of ratchets and take some pics for a side by side comparison.

The ratchet directional control is a recessed thumbwheel ring on the outside of the back of the ratchet, rather than a lever sticking out from the back. The thumbwheel reversing mechanism enables easy change of direction while the free-wheeling back plate allows application of steadying pressure without reversing.

Thanks Roadster. I've got a palm control Sk, a model #3869, I won in a drawing. I figured the palm control had something to do with the reversing mechanism but I wasn't sure. Many thanks.

Great ratchets....supply and warranty replacement may be an issue if your supplier drops the line. Griot is already starting to transition to Beta from Facom.

Latest word as of last Friday is that Stanley will not take over Facom distribution until 2008. SD

Griots Garage. Its a very expensive mail order place with one or two walkin stores and they are dedicated soley to detailing cars. They sell all sorts fhigh end waxes and cleaners and the like. Most of it is rebadged from other brands, but not one single brand. They take the best of the best from each brand and stick thier name on it, so anything you get from them, you know is going to be top notch. They have torque wrenches branded "griots" but they are made in england by norbar. They sell mag nad aluminum cleaner/polish, and its made by "mothers"... its probably the mest cleaner and polih out there.
