Parket 974 question

Hi Guys,
I just bought a Parker 974 in really good condition - hardly any wear on the jaws. The main screw however has about a 1/6th of an inch of wobble at the front where it enters the dynamic jaw - i.e. you can lift the main screw about 1/6th on an inch. Is there supposed to be a bushing of some kind there? There are two flat washers but it seems like there needs to be something so that it doesn't wobble, and it is too much for just wear at the hole in the dynamic jaw.
Any thoughts appreciated

Looks like you've stumped the band! If there is a steel pin in back, it might not be putting enough pressure on the threaded assy. Punch it out, bend the pin and reinseart it.

I was reminded of this thread by a rich vise collector out East.

There's no bushing in the one I have.
If you've got a lot of play, putting one in wouldn't be a bad idea.

All you need is a little piece of brass.... and a lathe.
(Or a friend with a lathe and a few cold beers)

PS - I have a lathe :)
