need a pump for my petroleum based solvent parts washer.

Not many places to buy a submersible type pump for use with petroleum solvents and very costly!

I was thinking of using a standard auto fuel pump mounted on the exterior of the unit with a hose from the tank to the pump and a discharge hose to the brush cleaner. Maybe even a replaceable auto fuel filter. Being 12volt really doesn't matter.

Anyone tried something like this? Or have any other thoughts on low cost pumping modifications?

Graingers little giant has worked for over 10 years submerged in their solvent for same duration. Prior pump that came with HF washer did not survive a year in the solvent.

Great link Falcon67 except that the photo of the finished unit must be photoshopped, it looks like a sparkling clean swimming pool, not a parts washer!

302 Ford oil pump with the hex shaft attached to a small air motor. Pump submerged and air motor mounted to the side of the parts washer. A air flow control valve mounted to the motor and you have variable speed for control of the fluid feed, running it slow you don't use all that much air.

I'm still using the one Pop made over 40 years ago...it was a pump from a kerosene furnace. 110V motor, driven by a rubber type shaft, had its own replaceable filter element. Pretty sure he got it for free from a guy up the street who had a heating/AC business. Good Luck.

I think HotRod magazine in the 70's featured an article using a 12v fuel pump for a "Low-Tech" solution?
