Stopped in a local pawn shop today to look around for some handtools and talk about tool overload. Piles and piles of corded and cordless stuff and box after box of screwdrivers, sockets, ratchets, ect. I was only looking for sockets and that kind of stuff and they had the stuff priced as follows. American made sockets EXCEPT Snap-on, MAC and one other top shelf brand, less then one inch were a buck a piece. S/O and Mac were 2 bucks each. Ratchets were 7 bucks and 12 bucks for 3/8ths I believe and 10 and 15 for 1/2 inch. Wrenches were 2 bucks for American made and 3 bucks for S/O and Mac. He said that if I bought a lot of them that he would deal a bit better. Just seems a bit high for the American made stuff. I dunno, maybe I'm just cheap. lol:dunno:

$3 for a Snap On wrench seems pretty reasonable to me. I buy lots of tools from pawn shops but mostly power tools. If I occasionally find some sockets I want they'll just give them to me. Most people won't have that experience.

My local pawn shop gets a set of random name brand tools with some pieces missing, looks up the list price, adds about 20% to the cost...and swears you're getting a good deal on professional tools :willy_nil

After seeing they wanted more for a set of old used craftsman torx screwdrivers than sears sells them for brand new I kind of lost interest. Then on a later day, I saw a used proto 3/8" drive ratchet, I asked how much, and he said $35... I can get an new one cheaper at the expensive industrial supply shop in town!
