How did you handle wall outlets when pegboard is installed over them? Did you make a template to get them lined up? Use box extensions? Any experiences appreciated.

Tape measure, to the close and far sides of the box, and the distance from the top of the faceplate to the ceiling, do a little math, and draw / cut it out with a sharpie and drywall or jig saw

Doesn't look pretty but does the job. Hole is cut bigger to accept any cords running to the outlet.

How far does it have to come out? I would use a plaster ring if it just needed to come out a little.

The trick come in 1/2, 5/8, AND 3/4 sizes.

I added new boxes and outlets so I had the option of setting them out a little further from the existing wall and then framing them back in as the pictures show.

Once the pegboard was cut to fit the wall area it was as simple as measuring out the distances of the boxes and transferring those measurements onto the pegboard.. drill a pilot hole and jigsaw the outline of the device box. Really easy, Just remember the whole measure twice cut one saying!.

Give my build thread a look over, might give you a better idea and more pictures in there.. any questions feel free to ask!.

I used Unistrut to make my own power strip. The plugs are Unistut also but you can get single outlets from amazon to make your own. The gray cover is plastic to cover the electrical runs or what ever you have in the strut.

I mounted my pegboard on 3/4" thick boards. Used a Legrand Wiremold box extension which brought the box out flush with the pegboard. Then mount the outlet and get an oversized outlet cover if necessary.

I framed mine out with 1x2 stock behind the pegboard and routed the opening with a roundover. Will try and post a pic tomorrow.
