When you guys hang large sheets of pegboard, how far apart do you space the furring strips that it's mounted to? I assume you run it all around the perimeter of the board, but then is it every 12 or 16" on center? And, do you drill through the furring strips where the pegboard holes are, so tools can be hung over the strips and it isn't just wasted space?

I hung my 4'x8' sheet horizontally with only 1 strip in the middle and frame on all 4 sides. I middle furring strip I just used drywall screws thru the peg hole, don't even notice it. I've got quite a bit of wait and so far no issues

My relationship with peg-board has evolved into a love-hate relationship.

I really do love the peg-board for ease of use. Display commonly used, cheap tools that I dont' mind the wife or kids using and possibly losing. Great for a quick wrench, phillips, tape etc. when I only need something simple and don't want to unlock the toolbox.

However, I find myself using those tools more and more rather than the higher quality stuff in my box. It's just easier to grab from the wall.

So now I feel as if I should upgrade my peg-board tools or transfer from the toolboxes to the board and then upgrade those to even better tools. It's a viscious cycle and the only remedy I see if going full Snap-On box/ tools and hanging my SK, MATCO, craftsman etc on the peg board. The cheap chinese stuff that's up there now I guess can go under the kitchen sink.

I guess there are worse dillemas to have.

Once again, love my peg-board. It keeps my good stuff safe from the family and is convenient. WOuldn't go as far as the pics in the OP only because my I wouldn't be able to find anything on that wall. I need less clutter, but that's just me. Very nice work!!!

My Brother-in-law had a Great way of hanging his Pegboard.
He used 1"x2"s laying flat to frame it out and then ran a 1"x2" every 16".
(nothing special so far)
But he routered a groove where ever the peg holes landed over the framework.
Once he installed it, you could add any pegboard hooks anywhere.

I didnt do that and I have areas that cannot accept a hook because of the framework under the pegboard.
(I might just need to redo mine)

Middle of nowhere.
Sorry, I'm not into tools hanging on a wall. Now a cabinet on the wall is fine.

My wifes into stuff on a wall (old kitchen stuff) and I like tool boxes. And we get along just fine that way.

Heck when I was working as a tech, when my tools started to touch in the tool box. I bought a bigger box.

Sorry,

Here is my only current pegboard tool hanging project.
I bought a couple of pieces of (approx) 2'x3' plastic pegboard and a bag of hooks, and made a cabinet/box to hang it in:

Compared to the OP's friends setup, I am wasting a lot of space, but I'll be ok with that :)

Steevo....where did you get the plastic pegboard? I really like the setup you have there to hang all of your torch tips
