There are lots of threads on organization, but not any dedicated to pegboard use. Ive recently put up a fair amount of the stuff in my garage, but im learning that there is a bit of art to organizing your pegboard to fit more than just a few items. Id love to see some pics of pegboard walls in use. How have you got creative with it? Made or found specialty hooks? etc etc. Post em up! THanks!

I have one sheet in the shed for lawn, garden tools and power equipment accessories. I don't have enough wall space in the garage to effectively use it.

I used it on the backside of two doors that go into my shop. I thought they made good use of the rather large back area of the doors.

I love the stuff.
I started off with a frig surround in the garage.
When I built my shop I had 2 foot high block wall with 8 foot stick built walls above.
I did the bottom 4 feet of three walls in peg board.
I used the 1/4 inch, white stuff.
I ended up covering one wall with an unexpected shelving find.
So, there are shelves across the 20 foot back wall.
They are 17 inches wide and 8 inches deep and can be adjusted every 3 inches verticly
This is not what I envisioned for shelves.
But that was a good thing since the shelves are as flexible to arrange as the hooks on peg board.

That is pretty impressive! are those shelves for use on pegboard, or just mounted to the wall over the pegbaord?

Here's mine. More or less commonly used items.

I'll update the photo later as I've added more stuff.

Ever since I was a kid this stuff has simply been a staple in most people's lives.. I like having all of my most commonly used tools right at my finger tips while I'm out working on projects.. plus it looks sharp when you show them off right!. Check out my build thread if you like, there's tons of other pictures on there :) http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306497

I lined my entire barn in pegboard and hung all the lawn/landscape tools from it. Works pretty well.

The few times I've used pegboard over the last 40yrs the little hooks always move around and fall out, even with the plastic stay clip things... when I walk down that isle at Home Depot it still looks like the same old flimsy stuff. I guess I've been doing it wrong, but have since moved to the wall control stuff in small areas needed to replace the peg board.

I don't see why one wouldn't use pegboard instead of sheetrock/drywall when finishing the walls of their garage/shop.

....there is just something cool about pegboard........there is plain, painted and I believe there is even a metal pegboard!!!

Have always liked the fact that as mentioned above the tools right there to use. It also has the flexibility to move stuff around if you don't like the layout. My new house has a two car and attached one car garage that is mt shop. Use it every day.

I like peg board for the bigger stuff that would fill a tool box quickly. Big wrenches, pipe wrenches, adjustables, C clamps, extra hammers and general miscellaneous stuff. Not a great picture, but a general idea of mine. Little older picture and has filled up pretty good. Haven't decided if I want to put more up.

I keep a little bit behind a couple of machines. Charts hanging by the mill and drill press.
A set of combo wrenches, roll pin punches, ball peen and T handle Allens behind an assembly bench.
Goggles, drill and tap charts, oil cans by the lathe with an adjustable wrench with a brass mallet.A clipboard clip for a drawing. Just a few small things like that.It has it's place.

I love it, it has allowed me to move things around as I get used to my shop and you can do that quickly without having to patch a wall. I also think you can make better use of your wall space by being able to arrange and re-arrange to make use of the whole area.

As long as you get the larger diameter hooks, they don't fall out. Those who say they have looked at the hardware store and see the same old things that's been there for years are not looking very hard.

Here's a couple of pics, i've never taken any shots that focus on the pegboard but you can see it in these. I have peg board on 3 walls and the only reason it's not on the 4th is because it's a quonset.

OK, where do you get these larger diamater hooks? I have a few, but not sure where i got them and I cant seem to find them. We are pretty limited here, lowes, HD, ACE are pretty much it. There is a local hardware store a few towns away that may carry it, but im hard pressed to drive an hour for it!

Here is the little I do have. Still arranging things, and I need to find some more good hooks.

I think if I were going to build, I would cover a good portion of it with pegboard. White looks nicest, i have some of the metal but its would get pretty pricey to cover a whole wall! :eyecrazy:

If you paint the pegboard, I always prime first with an oil base paint, on a flat surface then one coat of a semigloss, while still flat, the paint fills the holes somewhat and the 1/4 hooks stay in real good. Sometimes they won't even go in so I manually screw in a smaller drill bit to ream them out.

I am with you on this. I had the same problem. I went to the heavier hooks and used my hot glue gun to glue them in place. You want to be sure you have them where you want them though. Really not to bad if you change your mind but does leave a mark where you took them off.

I just did this yesterday . My garage isn't insulated so im using the space between the studs as built in cabinets. I'll put up OSB on the wall and make doors to cover everything up to help keep the sawdust off.

McMaster. com has the heavy duty pegboard hooks and accessories.

Who sells 1/4 nominal thickness white pegboard in 4'x8' sheets? Home Depot only seems to have 3/16.

Do pegboard hooks fit into slatwall?

This is the first Ive known of slatwall- its like pegboard with manners..

Any pros and cons of one versus the other. I have been a big fan of pegboard, but if slatwall is just as functional, there could be room for both.

I like having my most frequently used tools at my finger tips without dogging through my toolboxes. I use the silly clips but I also use a dab of silicone to hold the pegs in.

No they do not.

It's not strictly a one versus one comparison. There is thin and thicker pegboard. There is unfinished and prefinished pegboard. There is slat board with a metal reinforcement strip that goes in the groove preventing tear-out if you put something too heavy for the strength of the parent material. And there is slat wall that does not have this metal reinforcement.

Looks like you got the anti-gravity pegboard. I assume the silicone helps hold the tools up too?

I looked again at Joey Dubs photos, and beside the Reserved wording on the truck parking sign, it looks exactly like pegboard hooks!
