Best one was "Fuji 10¢ Store" down on 56th & Pacific - wonderful place that smelled like incense and dried shrimp.

Those are seriously overbuilt ratchets. I think they could take some serious abuse and keep on trucking!

A few Plombpire tools found at estate sales today. Most of a Challenger 3/8” drive set that was out in the rain at the sale. I had one of the two missing sockets.
A P&C DBE wrench and a batch of Fleet sockets.

I was able to identify this ratchet as a Fleet after it came out of the evaporust. It was assembled backwards which I corrected. I replaced a Phillips screw with a slotted screw that matched.

I de-rusted the tools in the Challenger set and cleaned up the box and cracked plastic liner a little. I substituted in a Proto 1/2” socket. This set won’t ever win any beauty contests.

^ I had a 1661 and gave it to a buddy of mine. He loves it. Very smooth action, even if it's a low tooth-count model.
What COLOR would you call that Challenger box, Don? I have a couple "Challenger" and a "Penens" set, all of which have boxes that are horribly corroded (mostly on the exterior.) Tools are nice and shiny - boxes look like hell.
You ever find a match out of a rattle-can for that?

I’ve actually never tried. I just grabbed the set at an estate sale because it was cheap. I’ll probably eventually pass it along just like it is and leave the restoration to the next owner.

I used to sell some on eBay but recently I’ve been listing a few items on the Garage Journal classifieds. I kind of like not giving 15% of the proceeds to eBay and PayPal. I prefer to do tool trades when I can which usually is a win/win for both parties.

Bought this P&C box of 786 clutch-head drivers at a swap meet for $20. Maybe I overpaid, but I like the box. Originally the box said 1/2 doz. but only 5 were present. Previous owner engraved their name in EVERY one of them but luckily it isn't too distracting.

If you get some fine polishing paste, you can take care of that. But, take care, a little can go a long way.

I like the box, too.

I'll probably leave as-is. I have never had much luck doing anything with polish. I tend to under or over-do it.

Thinking about it more, why would an individual need 6 copies of the same driver and label each one? I know the seller said his dad had an auto-body shop (he was also selling many vintage body dollies). I wonder if the engravings are not his name, but an abbreviation of the business for use by his employees.

Can't say I remember seeing them in use before. My step-dad (contractor) said when he was younger he used them in security applications in a prison he did work in. However, I think security torx probably has replaced them commercially.

Correct… they were used in rv/trailer applications and I believe gm used them for a brief period of time.

Mostly GM trucks. Here are some GM horn ring retaining screws. The clutch head was replaced a few years later with a Phillips machine screw. Here is what came out of the drawer where the clutch head drivers live.

Wow. I'd have thought the NB ratchet wasn't original to the set if you hadn't posted the reference.

I found these contract pieces today . Adjustable is a 1957. The “MFD. USA” and the hand pattern signaled me to proto on the husky pliers.
