engine oil or 24c marine grease for engine seals. i use oil if oil will be touching it and 24c when it will spend its life being pretty dry such as o-rings in flare nuts.

I have a John Deere garden tractor where the manual states to use petroleum jelly on the battery terminals to prevent corrosion. It does work great for that. And for trailer plugs. It’s cheap and available everywhere are good reasons to use it.

When I was a kid, I used petroleum jelly to grease the bearing in my bicycle ! Seemed to work well.

As stated before, it is a petroleum product and should not be used close to wood.

If I carried every specialty product for the variousproblems I encounter if field repairs I wouldnd have room for the tools I need,so vaseline served the purpose. I used it for hydraulic hose assy, repacking cylinders repairing pumps and hydrostatic repairs and many more. I had a large console in the front of my service truck, cup holder, nuts bolts, change, you know all that necessary stuff, and a large tub of vaseline. Took my wife to get her car from the service center and she seen and asked "What is that for" with that look. I popped the lid off and she seen the greasy mess inside and I said Thanks for the Compliment. She was Quite the whole trip.

Not sure about using it on threads, but liberally apply some of that stuff to your truck's frame or other rust-susceptible areas and it works wonders.

Can I use vaseline instead of dielectric tune up grease on spark plug wires and bulb grease on car light bulbs?

I wouldn’t . A tube of antiseize will last most guys decades. Use sparingly on plugs. As for bulbs stick to real dielectric grease. Anything else can allow current to cross over[emoji2960]. I found that out first hand[emoji1785] with a temp sending unit.
