Back in 1998 I bought a brand new Macsimizer three bank bottom, matching top, and two lockers. I think the whole thing listed for close to $18K in the catalog. The bottom box was in the $8K range new and that was 22 years ago.
I'd likely still have it but the day they delivered that box was the last time I ever saw a Mac Tool dealer around here. There's not been one since.
Mine had double slides all all but the very narrow drawers. One of my drawer slides fell apart about 5 years after I bought it, I tried to find a dealer, but no luck, called Mac Tools and was told that the Lifetime warranty meant that it was warranted for the 'Expected Life' of the tool or box to be free from defects. I was told that the new slides would cost me over $200 plus shipping. I robbed two slides from another drawer, and traded it in a few months later on a Snap-On box.
Looking back, the Mac box was a way better box, the whole design of the cabinet is better and far more rigid. The Snap On lockers were junk, they sagged before ever putting anything in them, and the drawer depth didn't work out to be as useful as the Mac box.
When I traded the Mac box in, the Snap On guy cut me a pretty decent deal, and pretty much gave me what I paid for the Mac box. I ended up with a larger box in the end for only a few hundred bucks out of pocket in 2002, so I really didn't lose anything. Its just a shame that Mac abandoned this area, much like I think Snap On is doing now. Truck dealers are going away and they're saying if you want tools, you have to order them online. No more dealer discounts or bargaining for a better price if you pay cash.
