I picked up this top Craftsman box this weekend for $30. From what I can tell, its from the late 50s. Do these boxes have a date code on them? Looks like its been through several colors in its life time and obviously the top lock has been replaced. It does fit nicely on top of my Remline bottom box, but I've got to do some moving around so that I can get the lid to open.

The box looks like it was made by remline for craftsman some time in the 1960s. I'm not sure if they ever used a date stamp but if they did it would probably be on the back or stamped in a drawer. And good score alot of box for 30 dollars.

Great save / score on the ole girl . . . .there's lot of Remline love right there in your shop!! The Craftsman could use some TLC with new paintjob to match your Remline.

There's a Remline specific thread here on GJ so I'd suggest you PM some of the guru's listed there, if this thread doesn't flush out info.

By the way . . . . YOU **** on the cool toolbox for $30 !!

Open the drawer that has the Craftsman Logo on it and look inside where the logo "frame" is. It may have MFG info there if it is what I think it is...

The box is very late 50's at newest. My grandpa's box is a '63 and it is the "newer" grey with red drawer style.

Sweet box for $30

Yea, it is from the 50's, not 60's nor 40's, just 50's. It was made all throughout the 50's. It may be date stamped in the top compartment. Here is a catalog clip for it. Should clean up real well.

I checked the drawer behind the Craftsman plate. It says "Advertising Display Co., Chicago" and has a "57." So I'm guessing that's who made it for Sears in 1957.

I have only seen this stamp on 3 years of Craftsman boxes. I have a crown Top upper box stamped 58 and a lower Crown Top stamped 59.

Does anyone have examples of other years?

Sounds like OP needs to restore the ole Craftsman box with same paint scheme to match a '57 Chevy he scores on CL . . . . . now if he can find car for price LESS than it sold in 1957, that will really be something !! ;)

My "winged" oval (like the OP's) ten drawer is dated 58, and the three drawer is undated.

The three, six, and ten drawer tops appear in the 57 catalog, only the three appears in the 54 catalog,

The 49 catalog has a drop front three drawer top. :dunno: not sure if that was made by the Advertising Display Co...
