nine4gmc - I'll weigh it tomorrow but I'm guessing 400 to 500 pounds.

I'll say 350# then, I have a 32" long Hay Budden and it's 260#

Damn JC that's a biggun and the edge looks good too. You got a nice one, havent seen one over 256lb for sale around here, and i bought the 256 pounder lol. On the one spacebook group a guy posted that he bought an anvil welded to a stand today, thought it may had been you until i saw the size of yours, his was an 87lb wright, not even 1/3rd of yours lol!

So, how much at auction? I recently bought a pre-1820 Mouse Hole at auction for $190 (@$225 after buyer's premium). It weighs 143 lbs.

Tooooo much. BUT, I drove 2 hours to the auction and wasnt coming home empty handed. I bought two others as well, a smaller Peter Wright and a Queens Dudley (?) Had never seen a Queens Dudley before and didnt have my anvil book with me so I went ahead and bought it. I think there were a total of six anvils there today which, around here, is rare.

A little misunderstanding of terms.
There was a company called "Mousehole Forge" original in England. You can tell the date of their anvil by the way the name appears on the anvil.

There is debate if the term "mouse hole", when used to describe the feature on an anvil, came from this company or other source.

"The origins of the name of Mousehole is not certain. The square handling holes in an old anvil are called mouseholes. In England a bend in a river with a deep spot is known as a mousehole and Mousehole Forge was located at such as spot. There is a coastal English town named Mousehole and it was well known as the site of a brief French invasion about the time the forge was started. "

I don't own any anvils, but we have a couple at work, and I've beat steel a few times on one. Good stuff. There's definitely an old school charm to them, on top of just being useful.

So I took this bad boy out to pops house today so we could put it on the scale and weigh it. People at the auction were claiming it weighed 500 pounds but I was a little skeptical of that. BUT....we put it on the scale and it came in at 556! Definitely the biggest and heaviest I've ever found.

The stand isnt THAT heavy. I'd guess it'd probably be 50 lbs or so.

we know the anvil is 38" long. So I estimate that the top is 36 x 36 x .5" (probably closer to 3/4") minimum. The would make the top around 185lb.

I bet that stand weighs more than 75, the top looks like ½" plate and that is about 20 pounds a square foot, so guessing 2 x 3 would make the plate 60 pounds on its own. Either weigh, it is still a heavy anvil.

I was going to say 24" x 48" but either way it's a lot heavier than 50lbs I would think. How thick is the top on that table 1/2"? That would be a 163# top right there.

Just had pops measure it since I left at his place after unloading it. Measures 29 x 21, half inch plate.

So about 85 pounds of top plate and a good 40 to 50 pounds of legs. The puts that sucker at a bit over 400 pounds!

What is the serial number on the front foot?
What did that go for at the auction? I was going to go.... ;-)
The 220# Bullock anvil was most likely Arm & Hammer made, most are for H.Channon Hardware Co made by Columbus Anvil & Forging Co.
