Like everyone else my cars have these pinch welds on the side, designed to be used with the scissor jack. Jacking them up from the same point with a floor jack would presumably be a good place to jack up the car, except the pinch weld being damaged.
If you look at how the OEM scissor jacks work, they always have a slot in them to go around the pinch weld, but the jack actually pushes up on the metal beside the pinch weld, not the pinch weld itself. This makes sense.
The internet is full of pinch weld adapters like the ones below. But as far as I can tell, none of them are deep enough to go fully around the pinch weld like the scissor jack. They all lift by the pinch weld itself. And since they have a big wide base on them, it seems like there's even more leverage to bend the pinch weld than there would be just putting the floor jack directly on the bottom of the pinch weld.
What am I missing? Should I buy one of these, and why does nobody seem to make ones that surround the pinch weld like the OEM scissor jacks? And the real question...is the force supposed to be supplied to the bottom of the pinch weld, and while somehow not bending it, or is the force supposed to be applied AROUND the pinch weld, like I though?
