Pipe facing disc fabrication question

So I am trying to piece together a non metric threaded version of this facing disc set as SS customs does not offer a standard threaded version:

I think if I take this backing plate and thread it 5/8 11 I can accomplish the same thing?

So now the real problem I have no machine tools. I was thinking about ordering a short piece of brass round stock and cutting it down. Then I could drill it through and thread it. The only issue I can think of is if I need to chamfer the edges to fit into the backing plate. I want the center nut to stick up a bit so it helps locate the pipe on the grinder

Any ideas or thoughts?

-You haven't stated what you're trying to adapt to/from. Maybe you could also make a legible sketch with some dimensions because you "want the center nut to stick up a bit so it helps locate the pipe on the grinder". So maybe you could help to define "a bit" too. Not trying to be a jerk here but your request is a bit vague. There are store bought adaptors out there, I even purchased one for my Makita grinder. You could also take @no704 suggestion and use a flap wheel.

Is this just a set of "sized" backing plates?

How does it center to the pipe?

Why do you need it to center?

Very good questions I appreciate you taking the time to help me.

Honestly the more I think about this the more it's a solution to a problem I don't actually have.

I was going off of a picture that SScustoms has on their website that I didn't share (Oops). The reason that I was wanting the brass piece to stick up a little proud of the sanding surface was to keep the pipe from rolling off the grinder as I have had issues with in the past.

However I think I will just get a larger resin fiber backing pad and use it instead. That way I have more space to sand with and it won't tend to slide off as much.

Is this just a set of "sized" backing plates?

How does it center to the pipe?

Why do you need it to center?

The more I look at it yes it is. I had it in my head that it would be more useful than I think it actually is. Your questions helped me think it through and saved me some money!

Thanks guys!

Without some way of maintaining the pipe end square to the disk, I see no advantage over a flap disk or fiber disk and backer.

If you're trying to get the end of the pipe to perfectly square for fusion welds, a vertical disk grinder with table and v-block is much better.

Without knowing what it is you're trying to accomplish, this seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

If you're trying to square crooked cuts for general fab work, just using a fiber disc on a standard backer will work fine.

If you're trying to prep pipes/tubes for orbital welding, you really should be using something like these.

When I did a lot of sanitary tube welding, I did it all by hand, no orbital. So I didn't need a squaring tool. I used cut blocks to cut the tube square, touched it up with a file then welded.

Thank you for the wisdom @dr_clyde
I’m just going to order another fiber disc backer and some additional choices grit wise.

I was definitely overthinking for what I need
