I know I can go out and buy some, HD has 36x18x12 for approx. $62. I am just wondering if I can build them for less and if anyone has plans.

I could draw(CAD) up about anything. What are you looking to do?

Depends... do you want to make them out of fiberboard, or real wood? With the way wood prices are, you're not going to save enough money to justify it unless you value your time at 0 (enjoy the work or the learning experience). i think i have $50 materials into a similar-sized cabinet (IIRC, 24 x 20 x 18... had to build it to get the depth for my stereo receiver), and probably have 8 hours into it with no finish applied. Yes, i'm slow. However, it's pretty darned close to almost square, and unlike most cabinet-in-a-box projects i can stand on it at 210#.

Well I'm looking to do cabinets to store EVERYTHING out of sight. SO I need to have a cabinet to cover a wall 15' long. I can get pictures of the area Friday that the cabinets are going in, but I would think it would be cheaper to build some type of cabinet than buy it.

Just thinking on the keyboard I guess I could do 2 96(l)"x18(d)"x24(h)". My main concern is te concept of building a sturdy cabinet. I have all the tools but not sure how to go about building a "proper" cabinet.
Items to put in the cabinets are:
Jackstands (8)
All power tools (sawzalls, circular saws, drills, trim saws, air tools, etc..
Liquid containers (ie oil bottles) & spray cans
MIsc. parts small enough to fit in the cabinet for my cars and trucks

Any other ideas would be great. Perhaps a solution that is reasonable in price I didn't think of. I had thoughts of plywooding those metal shelves, turning it horizontal and using it as a "frame" to attach to a wall and cover over. Sometimes thinking can be scary, for me at least.

Bottom line, I want to spend less than $400.

Actually I think I will take the route Scott went and use metal and weld up my own. I will have a Millermatic 175 very soon and I found a great place to get 1x1 square and some 1x3. Now I just need to find some metal to make the doors at a reasonable cost or I might just have to go with wood for those.
I would powder coat the metal frame but instead it will be rustoleum for me.

The metal ones are cool. I might have to build me some after I learn to weld (my next thing). I built mine out of wood (partical board) and the whole thing cost me 200 bucks with the hardware, peg board, stick on tiles for counter. Took me week or so start to finish.

Excuse the mess. I took them the day I was finish to show a buddy at work. Had to wait until garbage day to get rid of all the ****. If your interested, I can take some picks of the inside and without the cars inside to give you a better idea.

How about this for cabinets, use pallet racking. This can provide uprights crossbeams for a work surface and overhead storage area. I use the pallet racking in my shed because it was used and cheap. Total cost running 26'x48"x12' was 180 with used wood for racks.

I would look around at heavy pick-up time or at the dump. I got a boat load of kitchen throw-aways for free.

My wife would laugh everytime I cam home with more.
