Plastic oil drain plugs

Currently living the dream with Ford's plastic thermostat housing . . . on my third one.

I had a 2005 Ford Ranger. The truck was a money pit and I finally sold it in 2017 when the transmission stopped shifting.

Anyway... One of the hundred problems I had with it was the stupid plastic thermostat housing. Replaced it at least 3 times. Absolute *************. Finally found a guy who made a metal housing, but sold the truck so I don't know if it also leaked.

Years ago when I worked at PepBoys we had a BMW in the shop with cooling issues. I don't recall the specifics, but it was overheating and melting the pressure relief bleeder screws which were made of plastic.

Greed, cost cutting and the lack of R&D has its consequences.

Dodge 5.7s had some plastic pans with a metal insert molded in for a typical threaded plug.

Nice of Dodge to introduce a second place for leaks in addition to the plug threads. Repairing a leaky insert to pan junction would be no fun.
