Where is your location because the ones around my area see snap on and look to ebay for a pricing guide . Nice score btw.

I've only been in pawn shops in AZ and Las Vegas, NV and I agree with the previous comment.....anything with Snap-on on it is priced at top Ebay pricing. Defeats getting a good deal.

lol, there's only 2 pawn shops within 40 miles of me and both price every single piece of beat up worn out junk that they have for as much or more than I can find the exact same item brand new - waaaay more than ebay pricing. Not even kidding. If you want a dented & rusty Hobart 140 for $500, a very used dewalt 18v cordless drill for $125, or a really beat up looking snap-on FAR72C for $275 then the pawn shops near me are for you. I can only assume they are tagged that way for people to haggle them down or some such but homey don't play that. I just left and shall never return.

OP you **** big time...

First order would be:
Woody you can kiss my hand the very hand that touched this bad boy and screwed the poor guy that brought it into my shop.

Second woody if you touch this snap on tool that will be a surcharge of $5.00 dollars.

Third on top of the state sales tax you must pay extra because my office manager needs a new gall bladder.

Fourth, we need your first born, your car pink slip, Ohio State football tickets , plus all the cash in your checking account just for starters...

Fifth we need extra money because my poor old wife needs to go to the shopping store today in order to buy some shoes.

Sixth if you are good today woody and pay us on time I can let cousin vinny off the hook from breaking your left arm today.

What the heck are they putting in the water in the op's home state??

Great find, I don't find that kind of deals in the pawn shops that I go into. I do some times find deals, but not steals.

The pawn shops I have been in are usually overpriced or priced just about fair market. The odd time I have seen an OK deal, but that's it. Never had a fantastic deal.

I have had much better luck with flea markets.

I have bought a few snap on wrenches for a $1 a piece because they were buried in a bin with a bunch of other old tools, just because they were dirty.

I got this gem for $5 at a pawn shop, seized. Freed it up to find a tooth missing. Cornwell guy rebuilt for free. One of my favorite 1/4 ratchets.

Wow, good finds guys. The pawn shop down the road from me doesn't seem to have any deals, I had stopped in a while back to check on air framing nailers, the had an exact same model that HD had, it was in good shape, but only $15 cheaper, which I stated, their reply was " Well I would Go to HD" so I did and bought one brand new with a warranty. Oh well! They always have a pretty good selection of ZT Mowers, but I have never checked the prices on them? Not in the market for one now.

What? Who in their right mind would sell any name brand ratchet for $2.50?? I will say though, I have a local pawn shop with a $1 bin, in which I found two brand new Snap On black hard handle screwdrivers and a pair of Irwin vice grips. Someone screwed up. I may have hid the fact that they were Snap On and made sure the guy saw me pull them from the $1 bin, but in the end I got over on them. Mind you, they have a glass case showcasing all their overpriced "top of the line" truck tools.

Pretty much the same here, ok deals at best.

Another neat trick is where they post stuff for sale on Craigslist, but when you go there to buy it, not only do they not have it, they look at you like your insane.

If you show them the ad on your phone - they claim they have no idea how that got there. They might maybe have had one of those at one time.

Which I am pretty sure they did since I could recognize the counter where the photo they posted was taken. (or they have it under the same counter given the ad was freshly posted the day before)

However if I would be interested in a gun or a diamond they have those handy.

Had that happen to me twice in about 6 months at different pawn shops and I pretty much gave up. Greedy deceptive pawnshops, imagine that.

A friend of mine had some of his tool stolen so we went to a lot of shops looking for them, he hit a lot more than I did, but every one was way overpriced on pretty much everything, at new prices or more, with a couple almost reasonable deals, maybe.

Edit: I assume if I spent enough time looking I could probably find a good deal or two, but if I figure in my gas and time, I could have bought two of whatever I got brand new and saved the hassle.

Nice score.

Pawnshops near me ask 75% of retail for anything with snap-on on it. Owners marks, rust, and abuse don't seem to reduce value.

I got this one today. Can I chase down the So truck to get it repaired. The socket doesn't move in all directions, only one. Must be rusted to hell.

Personally, I think someone mis-marked it by placing the decimal point in the wrong place. It should have been $25.00. You should do the right think, take it back and explain that you don't want someone to lose their job over this. :lol_hitti

Your local snap-on dealer might help you, or he might not. I'd suspect the latter to be more likely if you haven't already bought from him before. FWIW snap-on's lifetime warranty only officially applies to the original purchaser, not to their tools bought secondhand.

https://www1.snapon.com/display/termsofsale.nws

[...] This warranty only extends to the original Customer and cannot be transferred or assigned. [..]

That said, they don't typically require a receipt, but if you're just some unknown person walking up to a dealer with a broken tool that the dealer might rightly suspect was bought from a pawnshop/yardsale/ebay/etc, then you probably shouldn't be so surprised if he tells you to get bent.

If someone can turn a doorknob and push, they should be able to get into a pawn shop.

Anything that occurs beyond that is a ****-shoot.

They don't charge admission fees; so the entertainment is free.

A sense of humor will help.

I enjoy strolling thru pawn shops, and have bought new, old, and ancient items.. The clown in the mirror would most likely tell Me if I paid too much; but We are both usually laughing or wearing a smile.

I've seen prices from one end of the board to the other at pawn shops. No rhyme or reason for pricing either. I've seen two identical routers next to each other, both smooth bearings and worked... One was $10, the other was $30...

Pawn shops that are chains tend to be more consistent across the board, but the small mom & pop ones can be really hit or miss... Not to mention a lot of the pricing is just a factor of what they pawned it for. If they gave a guy $5 for a ratchet, they stick it on the shelf for $10... They don't care about brand. Higher priced stuff, yeah they start to do their homework but small handtools is so much in & out the door it's not worth their time to research every tool.

I've noticed here, the NICEST and LOWEST price on tools happens to be a pawn shop near the university, and you can even haggle considerably lower... Go figure... The highest and most beat-up POS tools is in a more thug part of town, and they get real pissy if you even try to ask them to go any lower than what things are marked...

Congratulations, you beat my deal. I paid $40 for a beat up tool box at a local pawnshop yesterday and was happy to get the S711A Snappy 1/2 drive flex ratchet that was buried in it. I realized I offered too much at $40 when the lady accepted my offer immediately with no haggling.

In the Indy area the chain stores are the best. There are several on the way home from work, I probably stop at 6-8 per week. The pricing is always a **** shoot. Complete tool boxes are generally the best deal because most people aren't interested in digging through them.

I live in Houston too, but I gave up on the pawn shops when most were purchased by chains. I did pick up a brand new Blue Point tubing cutter (Eastman) and asked the guy how much it was. He said "it's not a very good one, is it"? and I agreed with him. He asked if I would pay $1.00. Same store I got a brand new Ridgid 6" pipe wrench for $1.00

That'd be priced at full Snappy truck retail in this area. And if you attempt to negotiate a more logical price, they'll inform you it's Snappy and worth more than gold. lol

But sheesh, nice score. Whoever priced that at $2.50 is a *****. At the pawn shop near me, the prices are stupid high. They have a 40 piece set of crappy Ryobi drill bits priced at $49.99. It's been there for years -- I get a chuckle when I see it. You can buy it brand new at HD for $9.99. And the bits are even worn out.

I guess I'm lucky, I have several shops in my area that are super clean and run honestly. I went looking for a miter saw one day and found this Dewalt for $190. I offered the guy $160 and he said no, make it $150. Like new Bostitch angled finish nailers go for $70-80 and brad and staplers go for around $40. Roof guns go for just over $100. No matter if it's a good shop or a shithole, they always want new prices for old firearms though.

There's this one shop that is packed to the hills with everything but they want too much and I've never-ever seen anything sold. Don't know how they stay in business. Another one has a parking lot sale to get rid of stock and there are great deals to be had. This happens to be the one who sold me the miter saw. Some people realize it is better to move product than to get top dollar for every single item.

Me and a buddy make a Saturday of it every once and a while and hit most of them around town. It's fun seeing some of the different offerings, but mostly it's interesting just people watching and listing to the things customers say.

Pawn shops make most of their money off pawn loans. A guy brings in a set of Milwaukee lithium cordless cords and pawns it for $125 in cash, then pays 30% or so in interest. And there are lots of repeat customers. If they can't afford to pay the $125 and the 30% interest, they will just pay the interest and keep the item in pawn. Then they will go back and pay the interest again and again.

But yes, it is kinda dumb for them to overprice the stock that's on the sales floor. They should price it more reasonably and thus make profits off those sales.

Yeah, I know exactly how it works. They also charge a few bucks monthly for "storage". But actual sales have to equal at least 20%, you'd think. Btw the shop that is packed with stuff, I've heard them not take larger items because they didn't have room. I even saw a guy bring in a large tote of air tools. The clerk made him take the tote and he double labeled each air nailer because they are stored wherever they will fit in the back. Clear some of your stock in the front and block it off for more storage to make more money in interest and storage. :willy_nil

We were at another shop and a tree guy brought in a Stihl chainsaw to sell. The owner was only gonna give him like 100 for it and the guy left with his saw. I gave my buddy a look and he knew exactly what to do...He bought it in the parking lot for like $140 or 160, can't remember exactly. He actually been wanting that exact little saw but didn't want to spend nearly $500 for a new one. Sadly their are a lot of people who sell their tools in the winter for next to nothing only to re-buy it at full price in the spring.

Your friend is awesome.

I'd be careful with that pawnshop. You stole what could've been their customer. I say F*** it lol

Same here, except it's pretty rare to find any Snap On in a pawn shop. I think they grab it for themselves or put it on ebay.

For reasonably successful pawnshop haggling: Buy over a few days, buy some small items that are not too high establishing yourself as a customer. Then on your next visit get a hand full of items items that you really would like to have and ask the price which will be too high. Then start haggling. If the guy wont budge on the price, put the items back and start to leave. He may reduce the price to a reasonable level, if not leave the items and stroll out. He probably wont let money walk out the door, but if he does you know to give up on that shop.
