Plier Storage

I am trying to get my tool box a little more organized, and am cleaning out my drawer that I keep pliers in. Rite now they are just thrown in it and I'm trying to figure out a better way to store them. If anyone has a better way I'd like to see it or know a way.

If you're tight on room I like to lay them side by side, but every other one is rotated to save space. Like so:

Also if you have two of any given plier you can double stack them provided your drawer is deep enough.

Mine are thrown in. The ones I need more often are on a magnetic strip over my workbench.

I thought about the lying side by side but I'd have to have three drawers to even think about it and they're 23X18. I had thought about the magnetic strip for the common ones that may be my best route if i don't come up with something else.

Now that I like, also gives you a specific place for each pair so you can look and make sure you haven't left a pair somewhere in the vehicle your working on.

i had same set of the picture of snap on pliers which i got it much cheap at my college with student saving from snap on guy (private)

Did you attach them to the drawer bottom or do they just rely on their weight to hold them in place?

They are just sitting on the rubber drawer liner. They don't move around due to their weight.

There is a HUGE difference from my tool cart to my tool box. My tool cart usually has every tool I have used that day on it and its trashed. By the end of the day I usually can't find anything under the huge pile. Every day, (unless I have an involved project) I wipe down my tools and put them away in the proper place then lock the box. I don’t understand how anyone can find anything or see what is missing if they didn’t. Everyone had their own system, that is the one that works for me.

Same here. I definitely use my tools, but I wipe them down and actually put them away when I'm done. It's kinda like doing the dishes....

Yep - I don't worry about getting them dirty while using them but they don't go back in their place until they're wiped down.

I call it maintaining my investment.

Same here I have a lot of waisted space in mine due to the way i have things laid out, But with one glance I can tell if I'm missing something except for my Pliers they are a little bit unorganized at this time. My Buddy says he like to come over and work in my shop because he can find tools and not have to hunt for them.

those are two of their 30" models. I was thinking of getting two more..I have at least another set pf pliers to fill up another drawer.

I tried those plier-rack setup last week. Didn't like it, it packed them in too tight and I couldn't put my hands on them fast enough..... Plus, I tended to bounce them off the drawer tops pulling them out.

The wire racks in this thread remind me of old CD holder racks. I bet one of those CD racks could be modified to do the same thing as an inexpensive alternative using something which you may have just laying around. Granted, pliers are thicker than CDs, so feel free to cut out extra rows to make it a double-wide.

I also have the plyerworx racks in my box, they leave a bit to be desired but is better than the mess of pliers I had before. I had a dish rack cut down before I ordered the plyerworx deal to make sure I liked the idea.

Are there two models of this? On some photos the handles are UNDER the horizontal wire and in some they are on top, which seems faster and easier to use. Or, is it the same rack used two differently ways?

I actually preferred having my pliers laid flat and interlaced, but it reached a point where they would have taken up several drawers, so the pliers rack is the way to go for me. Now just have to decide to sort by brand or function...

I could tell those red things were hand built, welded all the way across, ha Those setups are nice, we have a different method. We use them so much we would be rifling thru boxes, have a couple setups similar around the shop.

I've checked dollar stores, garage sales, and Habitat for Humanity (ReStores) for my selection.
