I am seeking input on how I can better organize (group) the pliers that are on the left side.

Should I organize…

By length?
By category (e.g. slip joint, needle nose, specialty)?
By frequency of use?

It isn’t completely terrible as it currently is, but I feel like I can do better. Thoughts?

I keep mine by type.

I do like those racks. Looks like they'll hold them all upright.
I have the PlyWorx racks which are all wire. The pliers flop over all the time.

Honestly, looks like your most used pliers are in the rack while the whole drawer is being used to inefficiently store some of the least used pliers that anyone would own.

Get the most used pliers out and in the open laying flat.

Take the huge box of snap ring pliers and get them in the racks on the left.

Throw the Gearwrench hose pliers in the rack to the left also. Throw the plastic tray away.

You’re right. I’m going to order two more Plyworx racks and do as you describe. Thanks for the ideas!

As mentioned, the most used are flat. Others are in an other chest.

That's how my drawer looks like once or twice per year when I reorganize it. Otherwise it's just a pile of pliers, the most used ones at the handle and the least used ones at the back 😅

Love that style of automatic wire strippers.

I store mine in the rack based on type/category more so to help put them back than organize them.

My most used are in a tool cart flat.

Sqeezy things are always hard to organize.

Thin Drawers lay them flat. Thick drawers you can stand them on edge but the varying lengths can create issues. Not sure if there is an utopian solution???

I need to work on a 3D Printed vertical solution????

May attempt in the portable box:

Another option is to organize by size. E.g. instead of having various lengths protrude into the rest of the drawer space, keep the long and short pliers grouped together. That way you end up with less wasted space and can store more tools next to the short pliers.

Whether that's important to you probably depends on how much storage you have vs. how many tools you need to store.

I like those plier organizers. They look really nice.

I went with a 6ft piece of wire closet shelf and a few minutes of my time.

I can tell from looking at the drawer that my best pair of cannon plug pliers is missing. I only paid a dollar for them, but they are a $45 pair of pliers… and now I have a new thing to be upset about…

I organize by type and then within that by brand.

I try to keep the longer ones off the to side so that it frees up more room in the center of the drawer.

But admittedly my pliers quantity has outgrown my current box. So a lot of the less used ones are in a cardboard box next to the tool box.

This will all change soon. Probably around Black Friday I’ll be buying a bigger box.

Did some reorganization during lunch today. I placed all of the “frequently used” pliers in the SW corner of the drawer.

During this exercise, I remembered why the pliers were organized how they were - not all of the slots are the same size. Due to varying grip thickness, organizing by type will be an issue…at least with this particular type of rack.

So, back to the drawing board. Maybe this is the best it’ll get.

How often are you using a CV boot clamp installer? If it's once and never again, get that thing out of the prime real estate area.

What's the Instinct handled Snap On tool in the upper right?

I’ve had those plier organizers in my Amazon list for awhile.

All the slots are not the same size/uniform?

My toolbox looked like that once... around 30 years ago when the toolboxes were stuffed.

My pliers are just tossed in a drawer, like this

Some of you guys need to seek professional help!:ROFLMAO:

I can understand why many of you guys need a coule four foot wide tool boxes when you set them in foam. I would need to add on to my garage to store all my tools in such a loving manner!

This^

The draw of pliers looks great except for the giant piece of ICON packaging. Remove the snap ring pliers from the package and put them in racks of their own and your drawer will be just about perfect.

I have a bit of a mess as it relates to tool organization. I mostly like category. A little pile of needle nose next to a pile of water pumps. If I have a particular tool that I like or is a favorite for some reason, it will be kept on top of the pile.

I hate when I need a specific Plier... that I have organized... but STILL CAN"T FIND THE FRUCKER. Then I find it in a different drawer... and I wonder WHY would I have put it in that drawer of organization???

Then I find out the MRS borrowed it and just put it in the first drawer she opened with pliers in it.
