I was about to purchase MAC Tools PS4 for $50

http://www.mactools.com/product/tabid/120/p-319846-ps4.aspx

When I told a tech about my purchase he recommended I buy Workforce 22 piece Plier & Wrench Set $39.99

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...3&productId=100624717&N=10000003+90401+502847

The tech told me he has owned the set for three years and never had a problem.

Take in confederation. I already own the Snap on screw drivers. But need the pliers and adjustable wrenches. What do you think?

I would not buy either especially for a professionals use. The Mac's are imported so in my opinion no way are they worth $100. Workforce is total garbage. Id buy Knipex, I'd definately buy the Craftsman rebranded Knipex Cobra pliers, they are a great deal. If you shop around you can get the same pliers that the Mac set includes besides the slip joints in Knipex.

Heres a link to the rebadged Knipex, they are also still on sale, these are without a doubt knipex, I have them and the Knipex that is from Knipex, they are identical.

If you were to buy the pliers in the link from knipex it would run you at least $60.

I don't like either one, but isn't the workforce cheap junk?

If you don't use pliers that often there are cheaper sets than the Workforce that are just as good.

If you do use pliers frequently you should consider buying exactly the ones you need in the best quality available like Knipex.

Look at the Knipex plier wrenches if you need something with smooth jaws to not mar the work & either Cobras or the alligator series for something that has teeth.

I have the Knipex smooth jaw wrench pliers and they are great. Bought the Sears Cobras recently just because they were such a great deal. It seems everyone swears by the Knipex, their Sears clones(much better value) or Kleins or Channel Locks. Let us know what you decide.

Does Knipex make a set with:

lip Joint Pliers -
Long-Nose Pliers with Cutter
Curved Diagonal Cut Pliers -
Multi-Purpose Pliers -

I don't have any pliers in my tool box

They make most anything you want, but not your typical slip joint pliers. Then again, I haven't touched a pair of slip joints in over 4 years after getting my 6" cobras.

aktoolsonline.com has excellent knipex prices. I wouldn't touch workforce or imported mac pliers.

The long needle nose and the long skinny side cuters aren't knipex, but everything else is.

The PS4 may not be imported actually, I know they have those cheapy $120 12 piece whatever sets that include all that kind of stuff and I recently bought some USA slip joint pliers off the Mac guy about a month ago. I know the imports don't have the logo stamped on them like that and that looks like that USA handles.

Just get channellocks.

Everyone here is real big on Knipex .The Cobras and Plierwrench are top notch tools.Their dykes and others are good too.I have cobra, longnose and hd cutters.Still prefer Kleins linesmans They take a beating I have pairs in all my boxes, tech cases and toolbags some are 20 yrs old. Knipex arent that readily available you will probably have to get them online and pay premium price. Channelock brand and Klein can be found at most electrical supply houses and even Lowes.Id go with them over **** like workforce, kobolt, husky, etc

Knipex is pretty well the best way to go. Otherwise put your $$ into Channel Lock stuff for a slightly cheaper bargain with still quality made tools. I believe there are a few good deals on Channel Lock sets floating around online.

I second the Channellock choice. In fact before Mac started being the Chinese tool specialist, alot of their pliers were rebadged Channellocks. I would avoid Chinese made pliers. I haven't had good luck with them but, your results may vary. You want to be able to buy a tool today and know that several years from now it will still be getting the job done.It also depends on how the pliers feel in your hands. Knipex are an outstanding choice but, they can get a little pricey. Here's another channellock start up set option. Good luck,

Channellocks are nice use them every day and have almost everything they make in my box you cant go wrong with them and in my opinion Dont let people tell you what you like go for what you like  and face it or not some imports are better the usa made tools hands down and they will get better as they push the market.

I would not buy a set of knipex, I'd get one piece at a time if you decide to go that route. In my opinion Chadstoolbox is the go to place for Knipex. I did find one thing on the AK site cheaper than it was on chads site, but I was ordering 5 or six items, Chad matched the price plus 10% discount which I believe they do on ANYONE that has a better price than them.

I also have nothing against Channelock, I have a few of them left but no plier I have found matches the Cobra's.

When I used the word "import" I meant Chinese or Taiwan, please give me an example of a Chinese or Taiwan made tool that is superior, performance wise ,to a US made tool. Now if you meant imports as ANY import, then yeah I agree with you, In my opinion the Germans and the Swiss quite regularly produce tools and other things that are vastly superior to US made.

Please be more specific when you say "import" :p You are right about the Chinese or Taiwan 99.9 is cheaply made and sells at your local 1$ store simple as you get what you pay for most of the time. Sorry if i seem to be out to start a fight just get's me going when people start pushing the hole "its has to be a usa made tool" There is nothing wrong with them i own a a lot of them myself and hope to get more in the future with out having to pay and arm and leg for them!

I just feel when some one asks for help such as the OP he should not get "No no no you wont let those get this! it beats everything" give the man a choice and why they might be better and why he likes them...

That and i guess it come's down to what you can afford and what in can do the job in that budget.

That ends a painful and meaning less rant.. :headscrat

This original Craftsman Pro set (pictured) Harry Epstein is selling for $36 is a great deal. These are excellent. Get some of his old stock made in USA vise grips while you are at it.

If you can afford to buy a complete set of Knipex, then go ahead.

You should buy this set of Craftsman re-badged Knipex Cobras now while they are on sale.

These are outstanding:

No problem here, like I said, I like the Channelocks and if anything I get **** for NOT pushing US made stuff. I'd never go as far as saying there is only one choice to buy but I will say without a doubt that Mac set is not a good deal at all even if they are US made which I doubt.

Not sure if it's a great deal price wise but theres a 3 piece Knipex set on Ebay for $86 shipped which is a hell of a lot better than the Mac $100 set.

If you have no pliers that C/M Pro set from Harry Epstein is great. It gives you good quality smaller pliers for a good price and you can fill the rest of your set with Cobras from Sears on sale and the Knipex as deals come up on them. You'll be set to go with top quality stuff at bargain prices.

I agree, I've had the old and new styles of craftsman pro pliers, nothing wrong with either, including the side cutters. I like the knipex better, but the craftsman function fine.

Its hard to beat Channelock for price and quality, they are an all around great value.

I third the Channellock motion. Go get a couple pair and you'll see what I mean...

And I just wouldn't be me if I didn't put in a plug for Facom pliers - my personal favorite. Knipex is great, but Knipex just doesn't have the finesse of a set of Facom pliers. At least that's the way it used to be. Now with Stanley Tools in bed with Facom who knows... :(

Yeah, I didn't mean to leave out the Channel Locks. Almost everyone likes them and you can find deals.

i am positive that the mac ps4 is american made, it is channellock. in his first post he said he could get the set for 50 bucks, which is probably cheaper or as cheap as regular channellock brand but he'd get the warranty on the mac's.

I get a 50% discount because I'm a student.

i'd buy as much from the pro companies as you can while you get the discount. the channellocks will still be 70 bucks when you graduate but the macs or snapons will be twice what they are now for you.

Damn, I didn't notice the "$50", I clicked the link and ASSumed he was going to be paying full price. If it were my money I'd still by the Knipex but I'm also not a new tech trying to buy everything I need at once. I'm suprised the Mac's in the link are US made, the 3 pieces I have look identical in the way of the Mac name and handle color but they are not US made. I wonder why Mac don't list on the website what is US made and what is not, not listing it has got to be costing them business.

I would like to get a few pairs of the super long Facom's, they look like a very nice plier and I have not seen any made by knipex. Any way to tell the Stanley Facoms from the real Facoms?

I have a set of the diagonal cutters with the 'comfort' grips. I really like them and I would buy that grip in the future over the old style. I have a few of the old style red grips that I bought before they had the 'comfort' grips.

I have both and love each one. The red handles are nice if you really wanna bear down on them cause the handle is thinner, which is why I choose to get the cobras and alligators with the regualar handle. I am happy with my set, but I really want some plier wrenchs now.
