So this came in today! Cleaned up well.

Here is the listing in the NAF catalog for the set your ratchet would have come in, along with one of these sockets.

A conversation on another thread here reminded me that I have not posted this Ranger 173 box end crowfoot. Ranger Aircraft Engine Division of Fairchild Aircraft made six- and twelve-cylinder aircraft engines in the 1930's through WWII.

You would have thought for $36.00, the seller could have thrown in a ratchet to go with the plug. :bounce: I for sure pick up every one I see at sales.

That one kind of surprised me. Seller was bruceb440 - heck of a nice guy. Started it at $9.99 incl. shipping. No idea why it got bid way up like that.... the bid history on it is just screwy - guy was bidding against himself. Somebody obviously wanted it badly. Go figure.

Bid history can be deceptive. If someone places a bid, then later decides to up it and later still gets outbid, the bid history will look like he made two bids in a row if there is no intervening higher bid from another party.

Exactly. I just did this yesterday. If you look at the bid history, it looks like I bid against myself. (As it turned out I didn't have to, and won the auction for my original bid.)

Hopefully, this won't step on anyone's toes... but. If you guys remember my 1/4 Pebble Plomb breaker bar issue a while back where we talked about it and a couple where shown. there's finally one on ebay... its got 6 days to go and already got a good amount bid on it. check it out here. I hope one of us can take it home. Seems to be pretty rare!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Pl...h=item287073f3e6:g:TQEAAOSwjoFcDsvh:rk:2:pf:0

Lets try and guess what it goes for! I'm going to go with $125 !!

That is a nice laid out board. Got more pics? Also what are you using to holding the bottom of the ratchets on the board?

Thanks r olson, here are a couple pics of my pebble board. I think I've added only a couple pieces in the corners since I took these pics. I only went up to 1-1/4" on the wrench sizes because that was the top end of what I'd likely use at the bench. The hooks are bent farrier nails. The ratchet cradles are just scraps of pipe mostly. I need to start another featuring Plomb LA. Ed

Very nice. B/T/W, I am one of the bidders on that 4766, so it will go pretty high.

A little beauty and beast scenario...

attachment.php

The WF 8 is interesting, fully chromed, native 1/4 drive, the plate screw pokes through just enough to keep the selector from over-traveling, and the dogs have a counterbore in the back to keep the spring from wandering. None of my other W rats have the on - off marking either. The 'PLOMB' lettering is tapered to converge at the middle of the gear. There are a few spots where cosmoliney stuff wasnt quite cleaned off, and it etched the chrome a little, for example under the selector, and at the head end of the recessed area on the part number side of the handle.
Inside the head was coated in the same stuff. I replaced it with a little Timken red grease and a drop of synthetic oil. backdrag is so light if it's hanging from the drive it ratchets before it moves a handle width. Maybe postwar?

The other one looks like hell, but works good.

Hi, I'm mostly a lurker, but recently picked up some old tools and have been researching them. I believe mine is 9/32 but has similar construction with the screw holding the front/back plates together. And yours is the first pic I've seen that also has the beefier selector lever. The ratchet feels so smooth compared to my modern tools. Feels and sounds like turning the dial on an old safe.

Even looks like the same black goo.

Mine doesn't have the dropped area in the rim around the selector.
Here is one the same as yours, I asked the seller if it was 1/4 or 9/32, and they replied its 1/4.

Have fun all on the 4766. Too rich for my blood. Although I could try for it and use it as trade bait for Ragz 3070.

My ‘45 set is coming along. I’m glad that it didn’t come with that difficult to find flex handle and a pin handle. There are a couple of sockets still outstanding. I haven’t decided whether or not to include the extension since it wouldn’t have come with one.

Today I answered a Craigslist ad for a Graco air-powered barrel pump. He was asking $20.00, and as we looked at it I noticed a Pebble Plomb 5449 1/2" Ratchet nearby and got him to throw it in on the deal! The broken selector handle was a bargaining point. It works like new.

He says he has a 1/4" pebble ratchet and will dig it out for me. :bounce:
