Sometimes when I pick up a rusty Plomb wrench at a garage sale I figure that some time in the evaporust will fix it right up. Sometimes that works but sometimes I just end up with a really pitted but rust free wrench. For anyone interested, it is a 3031 wrench 3/4” x 5/8”.IMG_4576.jpegIMG_4577.jpeg

Since I have a fixation with what Plomb refers to as “pin handles” and I usually refer to as crossbars, I had to find a way to pick up the second Plomb 1/4” drive example I’ve seen. This one wasn’t even bent. The part number in the catalog is 4766-PH. IMG_4627.jpegBy necessity it came with a pretty nice and fairly complete set.IMG_4624.jpegIMG_4620.jpegIMG_4626.jpeg

I remember past conversations about these and can't recall if I've ever seen one that is actually marked.

None of the Plomb pin handles that I’ve seen in person have been marked. The only marked ones I’ve seen are in a picture I received from a long time collector in the Sacramento area.
I added a sliding tee, a long extension and replaced the owner marked ratchet with one that was unmarked. The set is now in the basement. IMG_4763.jpegIMG_4764.jpegIMG_4765.jpeg

City Tool Works. Obviously not a Plomb...... but it is a Los Angeles company. est. 1893 (in 1890 the entire population of Los Angeles would barely be a decent crowd at the Coliseum) still in business, structural steel fabrication now...Ontario CA, just East of L.A. Kinda cool hammer with an old school brand stamp.

Your mailman deserves a tip!

"Memorial Day (Monday, May 27, 2024) is a federal holiday, meaning government offices are closed. Also closed on that day are U.S. Post Offices. There will be no mail delivery on Memorial Day."

edit -- nice wrenches : )

We get mail on Sundays occasionally, when the office gets so swamped that they need the space.

And I have a PO box, and they delivered to the house, on Sunday.

Picked this 3/4" X 16" extension up today:

#5663.

It's the missing link in my 3/4 drive Plomb collection. Wait--it IS my 3/4" drive collection. I don't own any 3/4 drive tools except for it.
That is a frickin awesome pull Bro.

I can fix you up. I have a 1935 set with a 1937 push through ratchet and extension and sliding bar. I have been thinking of selling it. Your extension is older, probably 1920s.

The extension looks like it has a 1934 "4" date code. The 56XX puts it out of the 20's. The 32 catalog looks like it has square 3/4" drive extensions...kind of surprised still going with square shanks in 34. Nice that it's not all twisted like you see so many Snap-On sq. drives.
