You seriously found all that in one day? Paschall hammer, can opener, the brake bleeder wrench and is that a weatherhead socket in the 1/4 box?

Yup, I occasionally use mine. It lives in the kitchen drawer 😉
Hi Smoke, yeah, 24 hours. That's not a weatherhead but I don't know what it is, it was in the $10.00 :pimpflashPlomb socket box when I got it, so I left it in for the pic. The square opening on the other end is smaller than 1/4" so...? BTW, that ratchet adaptor looks to be the earliest Snap On no. 6 variation. it was only $4.00 probably because it's unmarked. Not worn away, just unmarked. works great.

Here is my end of a Plombpire trade with John Deere. IMG_6940.jpeg
All the sockets were included except the 1/4” hex. IMG_1506.jpeg
I transferred the tools into a repainted box and temporarily borrowed a 1/4 socket from another setIMG_1507.jpeg
Removed the flex handle and added an extension. Waiting for the 1/4” socket to arrive. IMG_1514.jpeg

I am still in the process of polishing out the spinner with the chrome shaft. It has been a little time consuming but I’m sure it will some out fine. That one shown is one I had on hand.

1945 Flying Plomb ad pp 89.jpg1945 Flying Plomb ad pp 89

Four, if you ever get bored...send that to Mark. A while back during your absence we worked together and setup on the ITCL different ads for Plomb sorted by year. So the "1945 Plomb Ads" would be all of the different ads for that year. It's how we get around having dozens of ads alone on ITCL.

^ it ALL goes to Mark before it gets posted here. ;)

he and I have somewhat different "systems" for naming files. I start with YEAR, then publication name or manufacturer's name.

there is a method to the madness.

Lugz, the later production WF-8-S you mentioned was 1/4" drive vs the 9/32" drive WF-8. So there was a noticeable difference there. Below are a few examples I have. Besides the now identified WF-38-S the only other "S" designation I'm aware of is WF-21-S which is a 3/8" drive female ratchet which is also shown in these pics along with my Sanders cable cutter which I discussed upthread in posts from a couple years ago. So there is also a noticeable difference in it and the standard WF-21. In the case of the 38-S I can't see anything different. The 8-S can be found more often than 21-S, but this is the only 38-S I've seen even though I've seen it mentioned one other time in this thread.s1.jpg
Any chance you may have the dimensions of the springs used in the WF-8 ratchets? While disassembling a recent purchase, they went flying to who knows where..

33A dates this push through ratchet to January, 1933. Missing a faceplate screw and the pawl is broken in half, but it still works, though I never use it. I also have a 1937 example in great shape, though I have never taken the faceplate off. I think the push through ratchets are inconvenient to use. These that I have are 3/4” drive.

I had a newly acquired WF-8 that needed cleaning so hopefully this will help you. I measured the spring at 3/16" long (without compressing the spring) and 3/16" OD on the big end of the spring. I didn't measure the small end but it just needs to fit in the indentation of the pawl. I think I have found decent similar springs at Ace Hardware in the past.tempImage85QIiS.pngtempImagePqB0qV.pngtempImageDwaCu2.pngtempImagejIXXIL.png

I hope so. I could use a selection lever for one of the 5449 ratchets I acquired in the Big-Box-Of-Plomb. Just started cleaning some of the items tonight and they're cleaning up surprisingly well.

It’s odd that both of my WF-8 ratchets are 1/4” drive. Could the wheel have been changed on both of them?IMG_1741.jpegIMG_1742.jpeg

That would be my guess Don, but assuming you acquired them from separate sources it is an odd coincidence. Lots of these got changed over the years or just ground down from 9/32 to 1/4 drive.
