...is right! That was a cobweb clearer! :)

Nice find. As far as I know, it's the first conventional 9/32-drive socket I have seen with a 48xx series number vs WF- series number. The good thing about it is that it implies others.

UPDATE on Running Empirical Tally of ostensibly commercial (or at least non-WF marked) 9/32-drive tools:

4814 Socket, 7/16", 12-point (Rubicon)
4844 Screwdriver bit 3/16" (Lugz, Rubicon, MR. X)
4845 " 9/32" (")
4846 " 3/8" (")
4860 Short extension, black oxide (MR. X)
4861 Long extension, plated (eBay)
4866 Flex handle, plain steel (Tin Medic via Don)
4885 Sliding Tee, black oxide (MR. X), plated (AA)
Here is a recently acquired 9/32 4866 along with its 1/4 brother 4766.

Here is the 4866 I sent to Tin Medic. IMG_4847.jpeg

IMG_2130.jpegA couple of those boxes need paint. The bottom three are 4700B sets, late and postwar.

I received an early Christmas gift from my not so secret Santa, misterbill. A Barcalo combo and a generous addition to my slowly growing dual marked Proto/Plomb collection. It is my first DOE wrench.
IMG_2134.jpegIMG_2135.jpegIMG_2133.jpeg
I cleaned them up a little. The dual marked got a very brief evaporust bath, which the Barcalo didn’t need. IMG_2138.jpegIMG_2139.jpegIMG_2137.jpegIMG_2136.jpeg
Thanks, Bill!

Any idea on age?

I received the water pump pliers as my end of a trade with Macduf. They came out of the evaporust this morning looking much less rusty. I checked the early Plomb catalogs on the Archive and the first time they appeared was in the 1933 catalog, which makes sense considering the round O.IMG_2143.jpegIMG_2144.jpegIMG_7652.pngIMG_7651.jpegIMG_7650.jpeg

I've had this for a couple of years now, and I thought I'd post it because it seems to be pretty rare. It's a Gasket Scraper circa 1937. It still needs some cleaning. I never would have guessed what it was, and had to Google it . There was a couple of them that sold on Wort Point, but I'm not a member. I just saw it on a Plumb tool thread, but it wasn't this one.

There is more than a passing resemblance. Is it possible that Plomb was buying them from Duro in 1939? Probably just coincidence with the crossbar holes in different locations.

I thought I'd share my passion for Duro-Chrome tools and the great variety of socket designs between Duro- Chrome and Duro-Indestro, as you can see in the photo's with the sockets in front of the case. I don't have an older 1/4" ratchet, just the 3/8" and the newer ones.

Nice. Those tools would be a welcome addition to this thread.

Your carbon scraper was made in 1934 or earlier. After that the round O’s became the shape of plumb bobs.

I've inherited a few from some great uncles on both sides of my family. The Plomb 9/32" flex-handle and socket are from my Uncle Ade who was a sheep farmer in Southern Utah, found in his field toolbox along with the cool pebble DOE wrench. The Proto 5/8" pebble combo wrench is from my Uncle Wally who built dune buggies and raced Mustangs - among the tools I gathered when he passed it was the only one with his name on it!

The 1/4" ratchet I just added, still a nicer action than most any modern tools.

Some of the tools I received in a care package from a GJ member were these Plomb items. IMG_2372.jpeg
i added several of the pieces to a set in progress and added some of my spares to the new box. IMG_2376.jpegIMG_2374.jpeg

Good job. The donor ratchet is probably from a Craftsman set anyway. I did the same thing to some excess Proto ratchets some time back, moving the selector levers to some Plomb ratchets.IMG_2454.jpeg

I don’t think it shows up in any catalogs. Must have been right after the dual marked ratchets. It’s very odd. You should probably hang onto it. It sure looks like a Plomb pebble with a name change. IMG_2453.jpegIMG_2452.jpeg

I'll try to make this story short.
I had small carry tool boxes since I was 15 or 16 years old. In the mid 90s I was in my mid 20s. I was in a second hand store and found a top/bottom tool box combo full of tools for $100. I only had $80 on me. I wasn't trying to get a deal but I asked the lady at the counter if she'd take $80 and keep the tools. I guess she felt sorry for me and sold me the combo with the tools for $80.
Anyhow, in the box was an incomplete set of 1/2 drive Firestone sockets and a ratchet.
I always thought it was cool and held onto them for decades. Approx 5 years ago when I got cancer I was giving away tools and car & motorcycle parts like candy. Gave the Firestones to Twertsy.
A few years ago when he was moving and cleaning out his garage he gave me back a complete set with a breaker bar and extension.
I knew Firestone was made by Plvmb but I thought it was early 50s. I looked it up the other day and it's 40s to early 50s I think

I received this little wrench in the mail today from a generous GJ member. After I cleaned it up I discovered that it is the only one I‘ve run across with raised lettering. IMG_2470.jpegIMG_2471.jpeg
Here it is with some other 32xx series wrenches.IMG_2472.jpeg
In the same envelope I found this PWA-1453 center punch. The number doesn’t appear in my list of PWA tools. I didn’t see that size of center punch in the Plomb catalog I checked. I dressed it up and sharpened the tip. IMG_2467.jpeg

You got me. If so it had been made into a small center punch by a previous owner. A #47 rivet punch could be it. IMG_8256.jpeg
Here is one at the top of this picture. IMG_8257.png

I inserted it into my version of that list. I think I’ll change the description though. Pretty common for chisels and punches to be consumables during their hard lives.
