Boil the rusty ones first to change the chemistry of the rust, then use the light wire wheel. This is real "rust bluing." A very fine wire brush is called a "carding" brush, and is used for rust bluing. Rust and repeat to build up the blued coating.

I snagged a few pictures of an early toolmobile, add mentioned 38-39, that appears to have sold in Northern California recently. Anyone get lucky? Interesting drawer layout and the paint was claimed as original. Pretty cool. Wish I'd been closer. Ed.

I know someone who owns one of these I hope to make my own, one of these days!

It’s a good start for someone but I don’t know if it’s worth $700? Or maybe I’m just cheap?

The question is: How many of these have you seen. The average Toolmobile sells for ~$300, with exceptional examples selling for much more. If this one came up for auction, what would it sell for? I don't think $700 is out of line.

It's Bellevue Washington. Bill Gates lives just south of there (in Medina.)
That's the high-rent district, buddy.
If you think that's nuts, check out asking prices on vises around here.

Not really sure what's going on recently, but all the CL tool prices here have just gone through the roof - even on junk most of us would leave behind on a Sunday afternoon "everything is free" Garage Sale.

I was quoting the deal 930 dreamer
Posted up in Bellevue, not the tool mobile 😊👍. A square corner is way more rare than the 9990 930dreamer posted

It would take a fair bit of work to make a decent facsimile. Even the drawers look to have a different guide and roller system to go with the 2 high one low layout. This one was listed for only $100 and did not last long. I had family obligations, or I would have jumped in a running rig and headed South if I had been fortunate enough to have been 1st and get a response. I have seen pics of one other in captivity.

Most I've spent on a toolmobile was $300 with some dividers, original paint, and piston rack. I would have gone much higher for the early square corner one that was listed. Even the P&C toolmobile with piston rack I found was less. I expect they will all go up eventually. Ed.

No thanks to a certain someone and his starting the pressteel thread, I think I unknowingly created a research venue for others to quickly search their tool mobiles and then price accordingly. Oh well, its part of the double edged sword. I hoped to bring more awareness to them in the collecting community but also may have helped assist in driving prices up here and there. But there are still deals to be had out there, you just have to stay vigilant.

I don't think Riley meant literally "make" as in fabricate.
So I'm way behind on this so I may have missed a post but I believe that square corner toolmobile showed up first on the Facebook Plomb enthusiasts site and the owner let one of the "group experts" 🙄 talk him out of the piston rack and I think socket rail/s too.

Thanks for the clarification SirX. I knew I was missing out on something there but couldn't piece it together. With Smokes comments I thought maybe a Pressteel branded roller might have everything but the Plomb stamping in common. That roller has now surfaced in the vintage toolbox thread.

It is quite a bit of Plomb. Some fool just paid over $100.00 for a Plomb tool roll. $700.00 for all that doesn’t seem too out of line. IMG_7347.png

I have one, albeit not in as good of condition. Paid a lot less too. I am out of town right now, but will post pics when I get home. And I don't think $100 is out of line for a roll in that condition. When is the last Plomb marked one you have seen?

Ahem… Riley confused everyone when he quoted my post about the $700. I was referring to the 9990 in Bellevue being too much not the square corner . Riley thought I was talking about the square corner…. And thus this lead to a bunch of confusion.

Here is my Plomb Toolmobile. Only produced in 1937 and 38. The paint is original. Has piston and valve rack as well as socket trays.
First pictures are after the clean up

Agreed. I thought it would probably go for $125

Thanks for sharing this. We are all envious 👍😊. That piston rack and socket tail are pretty cool. Do you have more pictures? Maybe a close up?

Where was the seller located? A few years ago I was talking with a collector in the Bay Area about one but he suddenly dropped out of sight.

Of course if someone was putting together a Plomb based GMTK and needed a period correct roll to hold the ignition wrench set, that person might be tempted to pay a lot for that roll.🤑IMG_3634.jpeg

My Plomb roll arrived today and after a litle cleaning I added the ignition set tools. IMG_0675.jpegIMG_0673.jpeg

This is on the Portland, OR FB MP for $220, missing two little drawers?

Yeah those little drawers are a bit spendy...last 2 I sold I got $65 for them. The pictured box is also missing is lower drawer cover that flips up and connects with the hasp. I dont think this one is a deal. Someone would probably bite at $100 but not this price

Although most of the War Finish marked tools I see are 1/4” drive, here are two 3/8” drive War Finish marked tools. IMG_0617.jpegIMG_0618.jpegIMG_0619.jpeg
My wartime 3/8” drive 5200B set in progress is coming along. It still needs a 7/16” universal (extra) and a longer speeder. It has a few extras IMG_0616.jpeg
IMG_7349.jpeg-Don

These sockets arrived in the mail today.
IMG_0738.jpegIMG_0737.jpeg I bought them to fill out some sets. The green set was missing the 7/16” universal socket and this batch took care of that.
IMG_0740.jpegIMG_0741.jpeg
The chrome 3/4” universal was an upgrade over the socket that was in the postwar 3/8” drive set. IMG_0748.jpegIMG_6762.jpeg
The other extras went into the Plomb box. IMG_0743.jpegIMG_0744.jpegIMG_0745.jpeg

One day.
One day I will be on this level.
One day.

In the meantime, I check underneath the middle of the car.
