Nice work ! The hammer company however is the cause for the lawsuit in 1948. . Plomb tools is not the same as the plumb hammer company ;)

I have a 1/2 ratchet that was like that really nasty wire wheel brought it back to life!

You never know until you start with the wire wheel how much finish you can leave on. I was impressed with the Plomb, they did a good job making these tools.

I like to use the brass wire wheels gently.. they arent near as harsh as steel.

That makes sense, I never see brass wire wheels for sale, except in little Dremel.
Occasionally I pick up a wire wheel that shoots their strands off and end up sticking in you. I'm going to need a couple soon any ideas on brands to avoid or buy?

I find the cheap ones don't last and fall apart. Look at your local welding supply store or online for better quality. Forney, Weiler, Vermont American are all good names. You can find them on Amazon pretty cheap some times as well.

I tried army green Rust-Oleum and it wasn't dark enough. I don't think there is a good match in rattle can.

Cant you go to a big box store like Lowes and have them color match an old sample of say my 1/2 socket box with its original paint. and I think they can even put it in a spray can..? Nee to talk to them and see. I talked to a custom painter friend of mine and he told me if you use a spray can for something like that, get online and find a nice fan nozzle to fit your brand of paint can. It makes a world of difference. Said they are all over the web at graffiti sites and such and super cheap. I haven't got any yet but I plan on it!

Very interesting info can be found here.

ALL: picked up a few Plvmb and Proto L.A. at my dad's house today. i'm pretty sure they were either my my mom's dad's or probably her step dad's cause both were loggers. this 3/4 inch Proto L.A. is in great shape and i've got a bunch of 3/4 Plvmb sockets for it cause there were only a few Plvmb in the box. there were another brand of 3/4 sockets that looked every bit as good of quality as Plvmb and i'll put that on my DRIVESITFAR'S FINDS THREAD.

also i put this 10 inch MADE IN JAPAN crescent wrench in the picture for size and really it is maybe one of the nicer crescent wrenches i own and i own more than a few of these.

cheers all and hope you all had a great Easter.

I didn't know it was possible to match paint to a spray can will check it out. There's no paint left on these socket sets, but I might have a smaller one I can use. Always had good luck with the cans , I'll check out the fan nozzle. Thanks.

I had to move some stuff to work on my car today. That uncovered two of my half-inch sets. The bottom one is the 54xx series, the top one is WF parts. I've also got two complete 3/4" sets buried somewhere else.

R Olson- I'm interested in hearing about the half speeder! Is it Snap On?

Oldmantaylor- nice ratchets and oddball special sockets in there.
O yes it is snap on. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found it in a "junk box" in the auction rows. It had a almost a full set of sae shallow snap on sockets with it. The speeder I know is pretty rare. 49b355a6c5087ff0710c83fa4f0f12a5.jpg5239540aaac098de389689e9382144cb.jpg

I found a pretty old Plomb 1/2" drive 1" socket today at a garage sale. I'm guessing 1929 but one this old is not one I've run across before.

Nice pick ups ! I can't tell if your huge flare nut wrench is original or if it was a modded dbe? Really cool score on the box as well ! As far as the craftsman ratchet you are correct, any thing marked circle u is made by plomb! Really like the ratchet! I have some sockets but no ratchet

I dunno Ill look it up in the catalog and see if its listed has a weird 1AM numer on it as well.
Almost didnt see the craftsman, it was on the last Table I looked at and covered with grease n ****. got it for $5. I was thrilled as I have been watching them on Ebay. They always want too much for them. Got some 1/4 circle U ? those Plomb made as well ?
