Well I will post some pics in a few weeks but yes, I am slowly cornering the top box market[emoji23] think of me as becoming the rileysan of plomb boxes ( like his red and grey cman tool box collection). I visited Oregon rock crusher this weekend and tried to pry another plomb tool box out of his grips but no dice. I do have some experiance with people who don't want to sell right away [emoji23][emoji16]

I enjoyed your visit Smokeshow. Of course locating a prize is the first step in capturing it....you just need to come up with the right bait. :) Ed.

I will see if I can find a 15 foot tall vintage drill press used on a battleship [emoji16] I am sure that would draw the prize out into my garage [emoji23]

Long handled 1/2 drive ratchet. This puts my plomb 1/2 drive tools count to 150.

Also not really plomb related but close. Found this penens Corp Challenger socket. Anyone seen one of these before? What era are we talking for this this.5b18a06f29736c1c0beb72cd56328d70.jpg7cef780408a9397aa9b26d8dcda44bd1.jpg1e4290c8d83d8ea3605ef159cdc6552a.jpg

Thanks for the info. Was that the same time as the Proto Challenger?

I believe (don't know for sure) They started with Penens and transitioned to Proto once they shut down Chicago.

I've been looking through some old Plomb catalogs trying to find a match for a Plomb seven drawer tool chest. It is very similar to the four drawer model 9999 in the early catalog except that instead of the deep top compartment it has three extra drawers. When the square corner lid comes down it drives two pins to help hold the front panel. What is left of this box is pretty straight but sadly it seems to be missing three drawers. Anyone know what model number this chest is? Ed.

That is a nice chest but I have no clue on the model ? It looks similar to rileysans but different. I can tell it's older due to the square corners . To bad it's missing drawers but if any body can make them it would be you . I like how it has more drawers and not the large top area. Also wondering if you just got it or if you have had it for a while ?

Do the drawers have lids? Could it be some like sales man traveling box or possible military.

Thanks Smokeshow, The drawers would be very easy to accurately fabricate with all square corners and simple ring pulls....I just hate to have to. I think all of the drawers except for the bottom one are the same depth. This box just came up on C/L but was way overpriced in the add....I paid less than a third of what they were asking. Ed.

No lids on the drawersl r_olson. There is in the pictures a painted piece of plywood sitting on the plain slide just over the bottom drawer that makes the space where the drawers are missing useable.

I wouldn't call it full of "tools" even if the add did. There were several Plomb sockets and a 9/32 breaker bar along with a couple end wrenches. Also a little bit of Bonney, Snap on, and Williams. Quite a bit of it was junk. I doubt the contents were worth more than $50. Last I looked the C/L add was still up. I had sent a response fairly early and given up on hearing back after about 15 hrs until they returned my text.

It's certainly a 9999 variant, but not listed in catalogs. Probably a special order piece.

Thank you twertsy for verifying no catalog listing. I do have a few other tools marked special and it stands to reason the tool boxes could be ordered special as well. I found a business card and match book in the top which indicates this box spent some time in SoCal so the original owner could have had easy access to the sheet metal shop. I do like the more conventional drawer design on this box better than that of the standard 9999. I'm surprised Plomb doesn't seem to have produced more of this style. Ed

Real nice pick up ! I saw the ad but the price on it was out of control high so I did not call. Very great piece for your collection!

Thanks Somkeshow, I have the perfect place for it. I finished sorting out the box last night and here are a couple of pics. Some of it I didn't have and is interesting. There's a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter and a few odd socket sizes like 31/32. Quite a few chisels and punches too and a couple clamps. A better haul than it looked like at first glance anyway. Ed.

He must have been on drugs for the $800 asking price. You must have been pretty convincing to get the price down to a reasonable level. You didn't have to pull a gun, did you?

No firearm brandishing required Provincial. I was stuck on $250 max and had him down to $300. I was slowly stepping away and would have left but settled on $275. More than I wanted to spend but I'm glad I bought it now. I didn't feel to bad at that price and it was clear they could use the money. This was not a family heirloom to them...just a young couple who thought they'd struck it rich by picking it up at an estate sale. Not sure where they had found it but I asked them to please try and find the missing drawers which I'd be glad to pay up for. Ed.

Came across a small 1/4 set Sat. Even has a nice P&C extension. $2 for the lot.
Amber handle grabbed my eye.

Plomb is pretty hard to come by here, especially sockets from what I've seen. I may have left a couple out somewhere but I think this is about all that I have.

It's taken some time. Sockets seem to be the hardest to find.
That's funny because up here in South Dakota sockets are easiest to find. O have well over 200 sockets in my 3 years searching. Never seen a punch, pliers, puller, or wooden screwdrivers in the wild.

Must be rough [emoji3] I am still looking for a tool box yet but now my plomb tool won't fit anymore. Hell I don't think a tool mobile could house them. Nice pick ups. Do you ever pass on plomb because you already have that piece? I am thinking I should take a week vacation and just fly out to either So Cal or the PNW and just scoop up as my plomb as I can find and ship it all back.

Yes I have started passing up some Plomb because to be honest I have a lot I passed on a lot today but the wrenches I picked up today range from 11/16 to 1 3/8 and 3 of the 7 are war finish and one is a long dual marked I've never seen slip joint pliers or a swivel speeder and the Philips bit I thought was cool because it had the Phillips pat on and the box i couldn't leave it behind if you ever make it to so cal come buy no need to search for it and I'm pretty sure I got some pebble wrenches that I pick up because you asked me to be on the look out for them but I **** at shipping hell I got a package sitting on my shelf meant for twersty that's been sitting there address on it waiting to go for some time now got to do that soon before he has no need for them who knows maybe you will leave with a box

I picked up these wartime 1/4" drive sockets and extension at an estate sale recently and I think that they would be a good start for putting together a wartime 1/4" drive set. I would like to use matching 1C marked tools but that might prove to be difficult.

I love both of these boxes... Is the roller a tool mobile or is it a generic pressteel box? Please post more pictures ! I am curious to see also what you paid if you don't mind saying? It helps the rest of us to figure out what the rate is on these boxes and what we should be paying!

The pressweld box I got for free off of a lot that had a lot of gov surplus items I did a quick search on the government contract number that is on the box and it come up as a NASA project in 1968 the Plomb box I gave 150 for and another 25 for the tools . To me the prices on Plomb boxes can get way out of control And are hard to pin down to a standard value let me know what y'all think of the price I paid be it good bad or otherwise

You did amazing on the tools. On the box seems pretty fair.
