Anyone know the application for this USN NAF socket? 1/2" drive, cad finish, appears to be unused. Has an internal plastic ring similar to that used in some automotive spark plug sockets. Aircraft spark plug socket?

Shielded spark plug for aircraft have a threaded section on the upper end of the plug where the nut for the shielded harness attaches. A deep-broached socket will damage those threads if the socket is not perfectly centered. The plastic insert in this socket protects those threads.

Shielded aircraft spark plugs used several hex sizes for the plug and for the harness. At some point 7/8" hex was standardized for the plug base. Later two sizes were standardized for the harness nuts, 3/4" and 7/8" hex.

The hex size on this socket will tell you something about its age.

I could swear that I saw a section of copper coated tools in the Plomb catalog? I was reading through one in PDF a while back and thought that was neat, and I needed to keep an eye out for those. ill look and see if I can find that again .

I wanted to give you plomb guys a heads up... I started a pressteel tool box thread in the vintage tools section. I am in the process of cleaning up a plomb tool mobile in it now ! I will be fixing my plomb top box and p&c tool mobile at a later date . It is a thread where anyone can post and I have asked in the thread for others to post their pressteel or pressweld desks ! By now we know pressteel made tool boxes for plomb so if you guys have an interest, feel free to check bit out !

I have a listing for that socket in the Navy WW2 Aviation supply catalog that Lugz printed copies of some time back. If you wanted to set it aside for me, I would be happy to add it to my US Navy NAF toolbox.;) Here is the listing from the catalog. I have a decent collection of the upper echelon spark plug sockets but no NAF marked ones.

Hey Don -

It is already in the d42 pile, along with a bunch of larger Barcalo wrenches that just shouldn't be left behind.

cheers!

Thanks, BB! I found a couple more auger bits and set aside this item for your Plomb box.

Oh sweet plomb goodness ! That set looks nearly mint ! I have been trying to find a 1/4 drive ratchet for quite some time in the wild with no luck... If someone has a decent 1/4 drive ratchet, I would be interested (pm me!)...

I did pick up this nice condition long flat tip screwdriver and this 9/32nd Wf series ratchet... I paid $1 for the screwdriver and was very excited about it !I bought it off eBay as it was advertised as a 1/4 drive[emoji36] I paid about $14 for it as I knew if it was 1/4 and wf it would be a rare bird ! I got it in the mail only to discover it was actually 9/32[emoji849] the seller did make it right by refunding 1/2 the purchase price so I kept it! I would trade it for a 1/4 drive plomb ratchet if someone is interested!

Smoke: i'm not sure if I have an EXTRA 1/4 inch Plvmb ratchet, but one day i'll BE ORGANIZED and know. i do have one though and it's like a toy, but i think mine is Pebble so it's a keeper. did they make it in all styles? save some of your pebbles for me to trade in case i do until we meet again. speaking of which maybe start posting on the PNW thread in FREE PARKING cause we are talking about a member's swap meet (annually or even monthly).

Twertsy: keep looking for that Pressteel on your side of the USA and i'm betting it will show up sooner rather than later. good luck!!

speaking of that do you have any Blackhawk tool boxes and do you know who made them cause they are pretty stout like Pressteel? (maybe answer this over on the Pressteel thread if you know anything or have some pics).

ALL: have a great SATURDAY!! back to PLVMB TOOLS programming

anybody have an extra green Plvmb top box to sell or trade like this one?

I have several Blackhawk boxes drives. I really don't think they made them. The styles are quite different and while Plomb boxes look more "utilitarian," Blackhawk were more stylish with fancy handles, chrome trim, etc.

I have a few. I like them. I guess that’s obvious. No one ever said you could not have style and make great tools. Unless they worked in the US military.

I support the military... just to be sure my comment is not misunderstood.

Here are a few Wright Field tools I have lying around. The ratchet is going into Tin Medic's collection.

Sorry for the Delay. Ok, so... I got a message from a GJ member one day. He sent me a link to a Plomb toolbox on LEt Go near his place in L.A. Cali. The guy was asking $30 for it!! He had seen my sig line about Plomb tool boxes and let me know. He went and got the box, and worked with me on getting it to Texas! How awesome of a guy is that?!? I won't put his username here, unless ok'd. But, the box came in today by Fatenall freight! I'm excited and have big plans to refinish it and set my top box on it! Plomb Stack sounds good to me! I noticed on the top left side theres a Serial number. you other guys that have Toolmobiles notice this? Now to figure out what time frame this box was made. this is the second time this kinda of thing has happened on GJ. What an Awesome place full of good people!

Super stoked for you rag ! To answer you question, none of my pressteel boxes have a stamped serial number... Also you have a stamped plomb logo on the sides whereas mine is painted ! Please feel free to post this in my pressteel thread ! Great find ! You would be surprise at how nice the paint would look if you simply gave it some love but did not over do it !
Here is a shot of mine ... I will post more pictures over in my thread but you can see how just a simple buffing really brings old paint back ! To the left of the rag is old oxidized paint and to the right is buffed paint... All I did was clay bar the box and then use this one step meguires compound! I will put on some protective wax when all done !

I'm thinking it has been repainted. I may try to take the top layer off. But, I took a piece of tape off it and it pulled the red paint off. you can see t in the photos.. its SILVER underneath... I may just strip it down and have both boxes done together. I don't know if its newer or older than the ones I have seen that don't have the stamped logo. I also notice it doesn't have the white band on top or bottom. I did notice the Castors have a Pat number on them. Ill search that later also. the inside of the top two drawers is a diamond mesh. it is missing the lock bar. At some point id like to see if you could give me the dimensions of yours with a couple pics so I could fab one.

Nice ! I was wondering if your drawers were perforated ... I will have to check my catalogues but the drawer perforations I believe help date it ! I can provide dimensions for the lock bar ! I will put them in my thread and may even make one myself as my p&c tool mobile is missing it as well ! If it is painted over , I fully understand you wanting to repaint it !

Well I am doing this on my phone and don't know how to post a link ? If you go into the vintage tool section and look up pressteel you will find it. Or click on my profile and find threads started by me !

Never mind : I figured out the link issue in the post below !

I think I came across an oddball ratchet. It's a pebble 4749 with the flat handle of the early model, but the markings of the later rounded handle ratchet. I've only seen "made in" USA on the flat handles and "mfd." USA on the rounded handles. Really nice chrome on it too.

Here are a couple of Proto LA tools I found at an estate sale today but they weren't on Twertsy's missing list.

I've one like that also.....flat handle, chrome, 'mfd USA' markings....the chrome plating on mine is not quite a perfect as yours, tho...... : )

RICKSTER you and I have the same cabinet. Although mine is filled with nuts and bolts.

Here is a X 1516 PLOMB wrench . Not a lot of info out there about it but tool archives came through. It is part of the X-4 tool kit.

Very nice collection! I am really liking the red tool box and the little 1/4 ratchets! If you are interested in parting with one of the 1/4 drives, let me know! I have plenty of Plomb trades! Glad to see more Pacific North West guys getting in the mix!
