Congrats! I'm still looking for 1731. BTW, I saw your recent additions to your Plomb wanted list and will take a look today at my stuff. Think I might have one or two.
Thanks. Let me know what you are looking for and I sure we can come up with a trade.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

I found this 1938 DOE Plomb 3035 on Friday. The evaporust worked its magic. The wrench is in good condition for being so old.

I found a 3/4” pebble ratchet at the flea today. Super stoked to get one step closer to the full set. Still keeping my eye out for a big Bertha. It’s got a Proto rebuild kit in it, but it’s pretty darn solid overall.

Nice find Ragz.
The midget DBEs are rare from what I have found or lack there of. Still amazing you guys have fleas going. Wednesday wind-chill forecast here is -60.
All in all nice picks.

Roy, by midget DBE's, do you mean the short dbe, or the 1/4" size? I have both short and long DBE's in my user stuff, both are just like the later Proto ones, except they're always plain steel, not chromed.

In the long, I have a 3/8 x 7/16 that I'd trade for the plain steel Proto LA one that actually matches the rest of my set. I have some sentimental attachment to that set, it was the first Proto set that I got, but it has always had one identical pattern but Plomb marked wrench in it.

I have one or more Plomb short dbe, I know I've had one in 1/2 x 9/16 in my pickup for over 20 years, used it for the past two trucks I've owned to remove the camper shell clamps.

I don't miss SD a bit, I've got along fine without the wind and the extreme cold. No wind here, and been getting up to the upper 30's and lower 40's in the day, and only mid 20's at night the past week. 11 years of the SD weather extremes got me ready for a change.

It would be the stubby 6pt point that are rare. They did make some larger 12pt that are more abundant. Here is a screenshot of the 4 sizes. 8112, 8117, 8122, 8127.

Crazy part is we are suppose to have high of 40s by the weekend.Screenshot_2019-01-28-19-00-19.jpg

Thanks Roy, that's what I figured. I have the 9161 in my truck, and the same in Proto in my tool box Then , the longer set has an 8180 in Plomb in with the Proto's. None of the 4 midgets.

Good idea! I have been busy with work. This is a crazy week and a fresh trainee on my hip so no pc time during the day.

Very cool. Never seen the SJE mark. The old Vannatta site lists several contract markings, but no reference like this.

I dont think I have any other of these type small 6 point DBE.. Ill have to go back and look to be sure.. and no SJE on anything....

North Central Texas is a different world than you fellas up north. Dec, Jan... are 60% in the 60 and 70,s with occasional cold fronts that drop to the 40s sometimes. The only time the flea here is closed is when its in the 30s or below.. or raining. I really love how the Sat and Sun vendors are usually 2 completely different groups of people.

Since moving back down to the Houston area, its nice to avoid most of the winter chill! I'm finally making some progress in finding some good flea markets and places to pick. Let me know if you get down this way. I'll buy you a cup of coffee. Curious about the SJE mark. :headscrat

Crazy the difference in fleas by location. We have 3 fleas per year within 4 hours of here. There are smaller vendor count ones that pop up but usually under 30 vendors. I usually am at farm auctions on Saturday where everything sells to the highest bidder. The downside is you can spend several hours to the whole day waiting until they hit the box you are waiting for or worst it could be a bust.

Why is it that your spreadsheet says the 8160 has different sizes than his wrench does?
attachment.php

I have never seen one of those, if I do I'll let you all know; probably don't need it.

Didn't even catch that. But the standard 8160 is a 3/8" X 7/16" not the wrench pictured. The plot thickens.

So I slightly remember having a wounded DBE 6-point, but I must have bought it when I first started going to the flea 4-5 years ago.

I bought it with something that was an even bigger deal to me: It came with my very first transition dual marked tool! I was stoked.(The top one was found later on and put in the same container) But the guy didn't have a bag so he let me go away with my loot in a small metal can. I forgot about all this **** at the bottom of my first tool chest I bought at the swap around the same time.
It's too bad the 8127 is wounded.

Not sure why the photos aren't the way I took them, sorry for breaking anybody's neck...

Still a neat piece. It is too bad it's tweaked. If you are tossing it let me know. I would live to have it as a placer until another is found... If ever.

If you guys haven't already noted this, the "S.J.E." edit - and 1/4" opening - is not the only variation on that 8160 that Rags found. 8160's had 12-point openings. The 6-point midget DBE's were ignition wrenches, model numbers 8112, 8117, 8122, and 8127, not the same as, and not in the same opening size range as, the stubbies (8160-8163).

Just seen it just now as DD T/A pointed it out. Totally spaced it at first as the 2 prefix numbers are the same as the midgets and the shorts.

Special Job End? It is on the modified opening (1/4") end.
Interesting hypothesis. I was do some random searching for company names with them initals that fit the time period and found nothing. My best guess it the E was for electrical.

Roy,
Here’s one that’s not on your list. I’ll set it aside for you if you can use it. Thanks for the Chrome Alloy socket.

I went there first, and even Googled San Jose Electric, but San Jose was in the PG&E area. There was no San Jose Electric as far as I can tell.
Haha ran down the same rabbit hole with San Jose Electric.

The only other thing I can think of is some kind of alternative hardware standard marking, like "U.S.S." (United States Standard), or "A.S." (American Standard), etc., which Plomb used from time to time, but it was typically secondary to the milled opening size marking, and in parentheses, and "S.J.E." doesn't really track to anything like that.

No Plomb today but I did find some Proto tools including a Proto LA 6” adjustable at a local estate sale. I’m getting to have quite a few of the professional chevron wrenches. Unfortunately, I think every one of them has previous owners markings.

First of these I've found. Plomb 3/8" swivel joint PWA 1405. Also posting a Bonney PWA 1397 3/8" drive hinge handle over on the Bonney thread.

I appreciate you posting these pics, because I have never had a ton of interest in these era/style Proto's, but I noted that they were polished chrome on the inside, but the ends are non polished. I know I've seen a few like that, but I figured it was done by owners. I never knew they actually came from proto that way, now I know it's original.
Thanks for posting

I am taking a break from THE SECOND MOST BORING SUPER BOWL EVER to post this 3/8-inch drive box I just picked up from a fellow fleamarket picker in Northeast PA. Not a GJ member. Offboard buddy.

attachment.php

I needed a proper home for my Plomb 3/8-inch drive collection. I picked up the core of this set all at once in a DUNLAP box a few years ago. I picked up some more pieces in a trade with Roy and a WF-72 swivel socket from GJ member Farmer J. Still looking for a WF-23 speeder and a WF-74 swivel. Probably will swap out the hinge handle at some point.

Consider this a pre-BEFORE photo, though, because the next time you see this box it will be in an AFTER photo, stripped of the Xmas theme, and wearing a coat or two of the Lugzsonian curator's "distressed" combat veteran OD green treatment!

Nice pick Lugz. Still don't have a proper 3/8 box for my Plomb stuff yet. Any Superbowl that Pats are struggling is a good Superbowl.[emoji1]. Will probably change second half as it always does.

I just checked my duplicates and don't have either. Seems like I see the WF swivels all the time though and will keep my eyes open for 74 for you.

Nice pick Lugz.
Thanks. In looking at some other 3/8-inch boxes on this thread, I was a little worried at first by the handle holders, until I looked at my 1/2-inch box, which has the same style holders, and still has the old PLOMB logo. Paging through the wartime catalogs erased my concern. It looks to me like they dropped those recessed slot handle holders sometime between 1941 and 1943. Keeping it real, this box was almost certainly post-war red, but it was the same box mid to late war, and nobody needs to know that it was red - and won't know that - when I get done with it! :)

Thanks. I have several duplicates of the larger sizes if you need to trade.

I am taking a break from THE SECOND MOST BORING SUPER BOWL EVER to post this 3/8-inch drive box I just picked up from a fellow fleamarket picker in Northeast PA. Not a GJ member. Offboard buddy.
