Okay, it went from rare and justifiably expensive to rare and unjustifiably insane, and, if the seller played a bait-and-switch game, possibly rigged with fake bids, to rationalize a re-listed BIN, he's ignominious on top of it.

Just got the following from Rick and UncleDave. Fortunately it survived being in a box that the USPS apparently used for forklift javelin practice (the other two boards weren't as lucky ).

Now I need to work on filling in the blanks...

Good deal! I've got your sockets soaking in my parts cleaner and will be doing some cleaning this weekend also.

That's [PLUMB] and it's a WWII hammer. Not rare, but not everyone has access to good flea markets or estate sales. Worth $15-$25 to the right buyer with that martial "U.S." marking (not all of them have that...) if it's 4 (GMTK), 16 (Jeep, GMTK) or 32 ozs. (GMTK).

So the mythical WF3 was removed "due to an Error" and the "old" listing showed it as "buy it now" for nearly $2K...
It was back up and finally sold for $275.

I was a little upset my offer of $22 was not accepted.... but If I have one Id perfect it was in better shape with out an owners name on it. Being right by a big Airforce base I may just find one with all the older generation air craft mechanics around here.

Roy,
Your Plomb collection is really coming together. Congratulations.
I cleaned up my finds from yesterday. The Proto LA sockets seem to find me and I found my third mystery SR socket.

Don, I've been following some of the conversations on the SR mystery. I've never found one in my part of the woods.

Thanks. I quite a few SR examples including swivel 3/8" drive socket, 1/2 drive shallow and deep, breaker bar, and ratchet. I was hoping the drive tools would have a full name but that is not the case. All appear to be rebranded Plomb WF. Is there a military name that would fit the SR?

I was thinking maybe Sears Roebuck? I've not done adequate research yet, but Hinsdale had sockets with "SR" as part of their numbering. I know Hinsdale supplied to Sears, but I've not seen anything that tied this particular marking to Sears. Since Plomb also supplied to Craftsman (Circle U) I just wonder if the SR could have been another contract to move left over WF tools to Sears? All speculation! :headscrat

I am behind this idea as well. It would be along the same timeline as when Plomb was the source for Craftsman. It would also make sense the WF series would be more of a budget line of tools verus the nice polished finish of the Craftsman Circle U. This seems like the most plausible option after the Studevant Richmont option was shot down.

Maybe we should start a S.R. tools thread, and list/post all our finds. Where found, SAE, Metric.... ect. I have yet to see anything metric marked SR. As said before we can be all most certain they were manufactured by Plomb. but for who? And it is my thinking it was a good sized contract as they have been found all over the place as indicated by who has found them on here and the Garage sale board. I have an Air Force base here that has been here for ever. I know a few retired long time aircraft mechanics I am going to ask, maybe they have a clue. I am anxious to know about them!

Good idea. BTW, I would add this edit to my last post and say that after looking at a Hinsdale catalog page from that thread, the SR numbering they used had nothing to do with Sears Roebuck. Even so, I could still get behind the Sears Roebuck theory for our mystery sockets!

You bet, I had saved it. It was three pages back though in my 100+ saved threads : ) I wonder if there will be any pliers or wrenches turn up SR or just drive tools.

I would doubt Sears Roebuck on the S.R; they were getting particular about branding by then, and certainly nothing with the Craftsman warranty would go out without "Craftsman" on it. S.R. would be too obscure for Sears to be on board with as a Sears Brand. Even S.R. & Co. would have been a stretch IMO.

What time frame did this wrench come from? I like it, wish I had the whole set.

It is a pebble wrench and the are one of the most collectable wrenches due to their art-deco appearance. They were made in the 40s. There are 79 pebble wrenches in all. Including combos, DBEs, DOEs, and flares.
